OREGON THURSDAY, AUGUST 13, 1964 Correspondent for Newell Heights Reports Recent Events in Community By Mrs. Wilson Witt NEWELL HEIGHTS — Hank Moore of Indio, Calif., arrived Aug. 3 to visit his mother, Mrs. Marie Moore. On Tuesday eve ning he was a guest of the Cald well Jaycees. Wednesday evening Mrs. Moore entertained with a picnic dinner for her son. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. K. I. Peterson and Mervin, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Piercy, Mr. and Mrs. Mervil Hut chinson and children of Nyssa. Mrs. Thelma Hammon and Bill spent the past weekend at Low- man. They were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Swanson of Roswell and daughter, Sheryl of Boise. The Swansons have a cabin at Lowman. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Glenn, Lynn and Stacy visited Sunday with Mrs. Daisy Shook in Baker. Return From Nebraska Mr. and Mrs. Pat O’Loughlen and daughter returned home Sat urday after a two-week trip to Nebraska. Enroute home they went through the Black Hills and Yellowstone park. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Simpson and family were Saturday eve ning callers at the Ray Simpson home. Rollo Fenn and Glenn Floyd went fishing Sunday on the Mal heur river. Mrs. Fenn was a Sun day afternoon visitor of Mrs. Glenn Floyd. (M. L. Kurtz and grandson, Dwight Holland and Bill Kurtz spent Sunday at Succor creek and Leslie gulch where they did some fishing. Barbara Alexander, Stanley Bishop Wed In July 11 Ceremony By Connie Price BUENA VISTA—Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lemmons and family and her aunt from Oklahoma are visiting in the Mancil Bishop home. Mr. and Mrs. Hunsucker visited dur ing the weekend in the Bishop home. Mr. and Mrs. Bishop recently received word from their son, Stanley, of his marriage July 11 to Miss Barbara Jo Alexander. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Day of Adrian and Mrs. Esther Stephen were Aug. 9 dinner guests of Mrs. Blanche Hoffman and Mrs. Roxy Ritchie. Attending the Nebraska picnic from the Buena Vista area were Mr. and Mrs. Day, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hoffman, Mrs. Hoff man, Mrs. Ritchie and Mrs. Ste phen. Mr. and Mrs. William Orr of Richland, Wash., took Mrs. Les ter Cleaver and her four youngest children to Salt Lake City on Aug. 5 to attend a Mitchell family reunion which was held Aug. 8. The group planned to return Aug. 12. Visitors From Salt Lake Miss Audry Tanner and her niece, Kim of Salt Lake City, are visiting for three weeks with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Tanner. The group spent Aug. 5-6 at Lost lake. Mr. and Mrs. Garold Hom of Fruitland visited the first of last week with Mr. and Mrs. Tanner. The Tan ners visited Sunday with his mo ther, Mrs. Mary Jane Tanner in Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sisson at tended a grange picnic Aug. 9 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Price, Sr. Jimmy Findley arrived Sunday evening from Madras to visit in the Joe Stephen home. Mrs. Ed Corfield and her house guests spent Aug. 8 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rawleigh Pattee. Clyde Gilbert of Nyssa was also at the Pattee residence in observance of Mrs. Pattee’s birthday anniversary. Emily Myers accompanied Es ther Stephen to the Nebraska pic nic Aug. 9. Dorothy Pattee is ac companying her nieces and neph ew, Lorrie, Susan and Archie Aten, to their home in Sacramen to by bus. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Talbot vis ited recently in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Johnson in Par ma to celebrate Johnson’s birth day anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Hardman were Thursday afternoon visitors at the Gene Simpson home. Visitors From California Mr. and Mrs. John Downer, Kip and Sue arrived Friday from Taft, Calif., and are visiting at the M. L. Judd home. Sunday dinner guests at the Judd resi dence were the Downer family, Mrs. Marie Moore and son, Hank of Indio, Calif., Mrs. Olive Judd of Parma, Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Judd and family. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nolan of Lathrope, Calif., arrived Tuesday evening to visit her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. McDer mott. Mrs. Anna Pratt attended the grange picnic held Sunday on the lawn at the Ira Price home. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Fenn and family of Ontario were Sunday afternoon callers at the Gene Simpson home. Honored With Coffee Mrs. M. L. Judd was hostess for a 10 o’clock coffee Monday morn ing honoring Mrs. George Ross- bach of Bremerhaven, Germany. She is the former Carolyn Schie mer. Mrs. Rossbach and children left early Wednesday morning for Washington, D. C., and other points of interest they will visit before returning home. Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Kurtz, Bill Kurtz and Dwight Highland vis ited Friday morning in the I. C. Durnel home at Ten Davis, Idaho, and also visited Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Pinkston at Parma. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Laan and family, Mr. and Mrs. Luit Stam of Newell Heights attended the Dutch picnic held Sunday at Par ma. Returns From California Mrs. Lydia Worden returned home Friday morning from a month’s vacation trip to Califor nia. She visited relatives at Lodi and Sebastopol and friends at Napa, Sacramento and Marys ville. She and Mrs. Verna Costley of Homedale were Sunday dinner guests at the Elvin Worden home. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Simpson and family attended an open house reception Sunday for Mr. and Mrs. Percy Capper on their 25th wedding anniversary. They also called on Roy Purcell at Mal heur Memorial hospital in Nyssa. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Holdt of Sun set Valley were Sunday dinner guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Simpson. Dale Borge arrived home Mon day on leave from Fort Ord, Calif. He will return there Aug. 14 at which time he will be sent to Kentucky. C. B. Hill went to Pendleton Monday to visit his wife who is in a hospital there. Guests From Albany Mrs. Stella Broughton and six children of Albany, Ore., arrived Monday and visited until Friday at the Alfred Simpson home. Mrs. Broughton and Mrs. Simpson were Wednesday dinner guests of Mrs. Duane Hilderbrandt in Caldwell and in the afternoon visited Mrs. Elsmere Fenn and family at Homedale. Mrs. Broughton visit ed last Thursday with Mrs. Gene Simpson. Bill Kurtz of Merrill, Ore., ar rived Aug. 4 and visited until Saturday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Kurtz. His wife stopped at La Grande to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Prouty. Mrs. Kurtz came to On tario by bus Saturday and was met by her husband. They spent the weekend at Weiser and Cam bridge, Idaho, visiting her father’s relatives. Fines Move io Caldwell C. B. Hill has been helping his daughter, Mrs. Edith Fine, move from Glenns Ferry to Caldwell. She and her husband sold their property at Glenns Ferry and purchased a home in Caldwell. Mr. and Mrs. Rollo Fenn were Aug. 6 dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ward. Mr. and Mrs. Gale Allred and family of Ogden, Utah, arrived Friday to spend a week visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ken neth Farr and family.
