To Serve LDS Mission ♦ ♦ A farewell testimonial service for Nicholas Bybee Howes will be held at 6 o’clock Sunday eve ning, Aug. 9, in the Nyssa First ward chapel. Elder Howes is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Howes and will leave soon on a Brazilian South mission for the LDS church. Friends of the family are in vited to attend the Sunday eve ning service. Elder Howes will enter the mis sion home at Salt Lake City on Aug. 17 and will spend three months attending the language school at Brigham Young univer sity before' leaving for his head quarters at Curitiba, Brazil. National Convocation of Metho Camp at Wallowa Lake Eight junior high students and five counselors from Nyssa Meth odist church returned home Mon day from a week of camping at Wallowa lake Methodist camp. Highlight of the activities was a 16-mile hike to Ice lake by 38 campers. Jim Wilson, son of the Sherman Wilsons, was athletic director for the camp and led several addi tional campers on a hike to the top of 10,000-foot high Matterhorn mountain. Other features of the camp in cluded “Quest Groups," cookouts, swimming, volleyball and evening programs. Retired Minister Is Guest Guest minister last Sunday in the absence of the Rev. Ralph A. Lawrence was the Rev. Dr. Charles M. Donaldson, retired Methodist minister from Nampa. Gene Ches ter, church lay leader, conducted the service. ATTENDS CHURCH MUSIC WORKSHOP IN EUGENE Mrs. Elvin Ballou attended the July 23-28 annual workshop for Association of Disciples’ Musi cians held at Northwest Christian college in Eugene. The national session was at tended by Christian church musi cians from throughout the United States. Classes of instruction were given in choir direction, anthem repertoire, youth choir and selec tion of various kinds of church music. A highlight of the workshop was the participants singing two choral selections. “Gloria” and “The Peaceable Kingdom.” di rected by Dr. Elaine Brown of Singing City. Philadelphia. Pa. THE REV. CLAY COURSEY . . . To Lead Services ♦ ♦ The Rev. Clay Coursey will lead in an Aug. 9-16 revival meeting at Park Avenue Baptist church, according to the Rev. Jimmy R. Williams, pastor. Rev. Coursey is a graduate of Wayland Baptist college in Plain view, Texas, and has pastored churches in West Texas. Services will begin each eve ning at 8 o’clock and special mu sic will be featured. In connection with the revival meeting, there will be an Aug. 10-15 daily vacation Bible school especially for children of the Nys sa area. The Bible school will begin each morning at 9 o’clock. The public is invited to attend and support these services in the air-conditioned church located at Third street and Park avenue in Nyssa. Pastor Williams added. The Rev. J. E. Ray, business manager of Bible Missionary col lege in Rock Island, Ill., will be speaker. Tommy Crutchfield, also of Rock Island, will be in charge of special singing.
