Norman Thomas Ought to Know "The principle behind public power is socialistic and it is rather chfldtsh to deny it” The quotation is from Norman Thomas, long-time leader of the Socialist party, its leading spokesman and many-time presidential candidate of that party. He ought to know' whereof he speaks. Americans have repeatedly rejected socialism — by that name. Even proponents of public power tend to rise in wrath to deny the name. They prefer to sugar-coat it in numerous ways. If the path of America is to be socialism — let it be identified by its true colors. Too often now it masquerades as something respectable.
