MUSSELL, Pastor Assembly of God, Nyssa, Oregon Celebrating Christmas in the traditional American way, our minds turn back once again to the familiar story of the Nativity (Luke 2). The announcement by the heavenly host, “Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men,” was not so much of a pro nouncement of peace among men, as it was of peace and good will toward men. The history of the world since the birth of Christ has not been a history of peace among men; but, rather, a history of wars. Wars, instead of growing smaller, have rather, increased in size and destruction. Nevertheless, the message of God to men has been one of “peace and good will.” The message is not to any particular race or nation, but to all races, all nations and “to all people.” (Luke 2:10.) God tells us that, by means of the Child born that day, He is willing to pardon our sins, and to lead us, through faith and repentance, to a great and lasting peace with Himself. He wants to free us from fear and enmity; to give our troubled consciences rest; to fill our hearts with love to God and to our fellowmen, every where. From Jan's Kitchen ... Nyssa Elementary School Faculty) . . . That all elementary stu dents are learning to sing through the use of music syllables? To do this teachers are using a homemade xylophone, construct ed by Gary Clawson, vocal music director, to show different “pitch patterns. The “pitch patterns” are drawn on the chalk board and pointed out as that particular pattern is played on the xylophone. The children will be able to recognize these “pitch patterns” by hearing and/or singing them. Learning rhythms, pitch pat terns and mechanics of music take at least half of each lesson. The remainder of the time is spent singing familiar songs and learning new ones. At this time of year children are singing Christmas carols. Mrs. Elmer Rosen- kilde gave the devotionals and Mrs. Marie Moore presented the program on “Christmas in Other Lands.” There were 17 ladies present. Plans were made for the dinner to be served Saturday preceding the God’s Acre sale.
