OREGON OSU Machine Development to Assisi World's Seed Testing Laboratories Machines designed to speed up seed analysis are being developed by Oregon State university researchers in a move which may bring partial mechanization to the world’s seed testing laboratories. Seed testing operations have changed little in the past 50 years, with all purity analysis work being done by hand. In Harrisburg they were guests of her brother- in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. George Eichner and family. The couple then went to Reeds port to visit former Nyssans, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dority and went deep sea fishing out of Winchester Bay. Mrs. Lay, Mrs. Porter and daughters came to Nyssa last Fri day and the former is visiting other relatives and friends here this week. ADRIAN LIVESTOCK CLUB MAKES FAIR PREPARATIONS A potluck dinner and business meeting were held Aug. 18 in the Adrian park by members of the Adrian Livestock 4-H club. During the business session, Steve Kriegh was named presi dent for the coming year. Other new officers are Joe Hite, vice president; Jane Timmerman, sec retary; Laura Mackey, news re porter; Jeanette Phifer and Gloria Holly, scrapbook committee; and Teresa Topliff, activity chairman. Completion cards were filled out and animals were registered for stall space in preparation for the Malheur county fair. Jane Timmerman, Reporter. Dressed as clowns, the lads pulled a circus wa gon, colorfully decorated with cage bars of twist ed crepe paper. Inside the enclosure were var ious species of stuffed and balloon animals. Riding on top was a hap py little elephant. Signs on the gay wagon read "Come Join the Circus" and "Beware of Wild Animals." Mike, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reed Ray, and Steve, whose par ents are Mr. and Mrs. Art Bosselman, won the $5 prize for their entry. Participants in the par ade proceeded down Main street to Nyssa south park where they were all treated to free watermelon by members of the commercial club. F 1*1 h >1 T. Lewis Participates In Ship Celebration Thomas L. Lewis, fire control technician second class, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray C. Lewis of route 1, Nyssa, is serving aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Canberra and recently participat- 1 ed in the celebration of marking the ship’s 20th year of service and the 50th anniversary of the founding of its namesake, Aus tralia’s capital city. Highlighting the festivities was a personal message from Presi dent Kennedy to the Australian government, in which he reaf firmed the strong bonds of friendship between the two na tions. The ceremony included a buf- • fet-style dinner and a traditional birthday cake-cutting. Currently assigned to the Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean, Can berra is the Navy’s only warship bearing the name of a foreign capital.
