OREGON Miss Zesiger Awarded Scholarship, Trophy During Miss Oregon Contest By Roxy Ritchie BUENA VISTA — Mrs. Eugene Cleaver and Harriet, Mrs. Verna Costley and Gary returned home July 1 from Seaside where they had attended the Miss Oregon contest. Mrs. Cleaver’s daughter, Cheryl Zesiger, who had been chosen as Miss La Grande, was one of the contestants. She won the non- finaflist swim suit award compris ed of a trophy and $100 scholar ship given by the Pepsi Cola com pany. There were five finalists and 17 non-finalists. Miss Zesiger return ed home with her mother and the Costleys. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Ekanger returned home this weekend from a week’s visit with relatives and friends in Idaho Falls. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Shoemaker of Halsey, Ore., visited the past week at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sisson. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Lauer of Broken Bow, Neb., visited several days last week at the home of her brother, Mr. and Mrs. James Rit chie and Robert. Mr. and Mrs. Lauer and Mr. and Mrs. Ritchie picnicked July 1 at Lake Owyhee. The Lauers left Tuesday for Washington where they will visit her sister at Yakima and a niece, Mrs. Duane Wilson (nee Garnet Ritchie) and family at Moses Lake and also with Lauer’s rela tives in northern Washington. Cheldelins Return Home Mr. and Mrs. Orland Cheldelin returned home recently from a trip to Washington. In Seattle they attended the wedding of his nephew, Neal Cheldelin, and vis ited one of his brothers, Earl Cheldelin and family in Anacor tes. They also visited in Kenne wick with former Nyssa residents, Mr. and Mrs. Lon Fry. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gutzler and family of San Diego arrived July 2 for a visit of several days with her parents, the Cheldelins. Thurs day overnight guests in the Chel delin home were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bock and children of Port land, who were enroute home from a trip to the Dakotas. The Cheldelins and Gutzler family picnicked July 3 at Lake Owyhee. PICNIC AT NAMPA Mr. and Mrs. S. C. McConnell picnicked July 4 with their son- in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Moore, and their granddaughter, the Charles Pow ell family in Nampa. TAKE CAMPING TRIP Mr. and Mrs. Paul Penrod and grandsons, John and Sam, spent last week camping and fishing on the Little Malheur and the north fork of Malheur river. GUESTS IN ONTARIO Mrs. R. G. Larson, Sr., and her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Bauer, Michael and Brian of Kennewick, were Satur day evening dinner guests of Mrs. Joe Dyer in Ontario. Mrs. Larson, her daughter and grandsons were recent evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Mitchell. The Bauer family left Sunday to re turn home. SPEND HOLIDAY AT McCALL Mr. and Mrs. George Mitchell spent the Fourth of July holiday at McCall. RETURN FROM KANSAS Mrs. Art Colby and daughters returned home Saturday evening from a month’s vacation in Hut chinson, Kan., where they visited her mother, Mrs. Ray Austin and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Cleaver and family spent Saturday and Sunday on the north fork of Mal heur river where they camped and fished. Mr and Mrs. Edward Topliff and family of Hazelton, Idaho, spent a recent weekend with Les lie Topliff. Mr. and Mrs. Alva Goodell and sons were Friday evening guests at the Martin Edwards home in Payette. Mr and Mrs. Russell Gressley visited Friday evening with Leslie Topliff. Topliff was a Sunday dinner guest in the Gressley home and visited in the evening at the Irvin Topliff home near Adrian. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Armstrong and Donna Lou of California vis ited last week at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. James Stephen and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stephen and family, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Stephen and sons, Mrs. Esther Stephen and Willy. A picnic was attended by all at the Eugene Stephen home. Mr. and Mrs. Arm strong and daughter left Friday morning for their home. Visit From Nebraska Mr. and Mrs. James A. Olson of Grand Island, Neb., visited from Friday evening to Monday at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Silas Hoffman. Mr. and Mrs. Olson, Hoffman and Mrs. James Ritchie went to Lake Owyhee Saturday to see the dam and also to Cherry Creek resort. Sunday dinner guests in the Hoff man home were Mr. and Mrs. Ol son, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Day of Adrian, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hoff man and Glenda, Mr. and Mrs. Ritchie and Robert and Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Hoffman. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Harwell and family of Emmett visited Sunday at the Guy Tanner home He is a nephew of Mrs. Tanner. Barbara, Kim and Audrey Tanner of Boise arrived July 3 and Kim remained until Friday in the Tan ner home. Audrey Tanner and Susan Gibbons of Boise were Fri day overnight guests there. Mrs. Jack Farmer and daugh ters and Don Van de Bogard vis ited Sunday at the Harold Dail home. Carol Mae Farmer remain ed for a two-day visit. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Richesin and children picnicked July 4 with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Richesin in Fruitland. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Finger and Dick were July 4 guests off her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Hankins in Caldwell, and also i viewed the fireworks in the eve- ' ning. Stephens Visit Parents Mr. and Mrs. Roger Stephen and family of Canoga Park, Calif., arrived Saturday at the home of > his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Stephen and Larry. Ronald Ste- j phen of Klamath Falls also visit-1 ed there several days. Sunday they were all guests in the James | O. Stephen home at Burns. Ron-1 aid remained there until Monday I when he returned to Klamath j Falls. Kathy, Debbie and Lonnie Stephen, who had spent a week' with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Day at Lake Owy-, hee, returned to their home at Burns Sunday with their grand-; parents, Mr. and Mrs James Ste phen. Mrs. Elton Hunsucker and Rob bie and Mrs. Margaret Elliott of Payette were July 4 guests in the Mancil Bishop home. Mrs. Hun sucker and Robbie remained there until Sunday evening. The Lloyd Cleaver family, Roy Thomas, Gene Jones, Gary, Kirk, Darrell and Donnie Cleaver and the Lester Cleaver family spent several days during the past two weeks camping and fishing on the north fork of Malheur river. PAGE THREE Mrs. Calvin Conner Is Honored Guest at Recent Shower in Gary Beits Home Graveside services for Asher Watt McDaniel were conducted Wednesday afternoon, July 3, 1963, at the cemetery in Parma He succumbed the previous mor ning in a Caldwell nursing home Mr. McDaniel was born Aug. 18, 1884. at Decator, Texas, where he grew up and married Annie Dor sey in 1904. Mrs. McDaniel pre ceded him in death while resid ing in Colorado. The deceased, a retired railroad employee, went to Parma in 1954 to make his home with a daugh ter, Mrs. J. T. Thompson. In addition to Mrs. Thompson, he is survived by another daugh ter, Mrs. Roy Anderson of Seattle; two brothers, Joe and Roy Mc Daniel of Texas; a sister, Mrs Mabel Hansord of Texas and four grandchildren. Another daughter preceded him in death in 1957 in Montana. WEEKEND CAMPING TRIP Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Holcomb and the Duane Holcomb, Rodney Holcomb, Cliff Main and Art Bos- selman families spent the holiday weekend camping and fishing on the north fork of Malheur river. Effie Niel son, Arvin Kersey, Sherman Keck, Ted Allison, Omar Betts, Henry Conner, Jay Conner, Louis Kissell, Bert Richesin, Gene Barn hart and Vernon Walker. Mrs Conner received many use ful gifts. The evening was spent playing parlor games and visiting. A surprise birthday party was given for the Wilsons and Mc Kague that evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shaw The evening was spent visiting.
