Modern Pioneers Elect New Officers, Plan New Year's Party at Kurtz Home Reception Honors Susan Chamberlain On 80th Anniversar By Mrs. Wilson Witt NEWELL HEIGHTS — Modern Pioneer club met Dec. 5 at the home of Frankie Worden with Lydia Worden as co-hostess. Pres, ident Lillian Fahrenbruch had charge of the meeting. Roll call was “My Happiest Christmas.” Th irteen members were present. An election of officers was held. Klasine Mantel was named presi dent; Lydia Worden, vice presi dent; Frankie Worden, secretary treasurer. Plans were made for a New Year’s party to be held at the M L. Kurtz home. A program planning committee was selected. Those serving are Frankie Wor den. Ruby Leedy and Lillian Fahrenbruch. Visit With Missionaries Mrs. Lucille Patterson and sis ter-in-law, Miss Venna Patterson of Nampa, came Tuesday morn ing to visit Mr. and Mrs. Fred Russell, missionary house guests at the M L. Kurtz home. They were luncheon guests of the Kurtz couple. Russells’ parents, broth ers and sisters grew up and all attended a Presbyterian church in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Russell’s father was a Presbyterian minis ter in the church that the Russells attended. Ber- humans. Christmas Show Slated Saturday By Garden Club ANK Garden club members met Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Carl Powers in Parma with Mrs Ed Bagley assisting at the 1:30 dessert. Mrs. Ben Gah- ley attended as a guest and the program, “Mary Gardens for Christmas Time,” was given by Mrs. Elton McCormick. Main topic discussed during the business session was the forth coming Christmas show to be held Saturday, Dec. 16, from 1 to 8 i p.m. in the Parma community house. Theme of the third annual ex hibit will be "Christmas, Always Old—Always New." There will be no admission charge as the show is staged each year as a community service. It is primar ily to display arrangements which may be used in homes during the holiday season. Many of the ex hibits will be taken, following the show, to Malheur Memorial hospital to add Christmas pleas ure for the patients. Members of the club state that they have been well pleased with attendance the past two years and have asked the Journal to an nounce that all residents of the valley are cordially invited to attend. SON BORN TO LLOYD WOODS Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wood of the Big Bend area are parents of a 9-pound, 7-ounce son, Michael Lee, born Dec. 4 at Malheur Me morial hospital. He joins a broth er, Larry, 3%, and a sister, Robin, 20 months of age. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wood of Big Bend and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lancaster of Nyssa. Extension Club Sees Demonstration On Making Yule Gards, Decorations Mrs. Cecil Houston, Mrs. Henry Schoeneman, Mrs. George Hust and Mrs. Clyde Boyers visited Saturday with Dorothy Houston in Boise. Dorothy is attending beauty college there. Attend Funeral Services Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Should a flight go awry, a special combination of tones transmitted from the ground would cause the rods to vibrate, triggering an explosive charge to destroy the missile.
