What do you do when some member of your family becomes critically ill? Do you still rely on some home remedy recommended by your neighbor? Or do you just let them suffer (remembering that a high proportion of illnesses are overcome with no medicine)? Most of us are not the stoic type of our ancestors and rush to the doctor when pain becomes acute or lasts for any length of time. We get the prescription filled and follow directions to a “T” until the pain subsides. Perhaps that’s why so many people are careless and do not take the polio vaccine. But your family doctor recommends that everyone take it — regardless of your age and regardless of your having taken the Salk vaccine. We know this is a busy time of year with Christmas nearing, the new year approaching and all — but your health and that of the community is too important to let anything keep you from taking the polio vaccine Satur day or Sunday of this week. IF you trust your doctor and believe he knows what he’s talking about, you’ll be there with every member of your family. The doctors donate their services — so do the nurses and the cost is only 35 cents per person — and no pain attached. The medical profession pays for these advertisements to let you know about the disease and the effectiveness of the vaccine — without Medicare or any other govern ment aid.
