As buyer for the whole family you have lots of weighty decisions to make. To speak for you, a Consumers Advisory council has recently been set up by President Kenne dy. It will study consumer prob lems and advise government of ficials. Some people feel more should be done to give consumers the kind of information we need to be better buyers. If homemakers want tips on wise buying of children’s clothing, canned goods, carpets, vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, electric ranges, foam rubber upholstery, and many other items, let OSU specialists know—or call the local county extension office. These specialists at OSU have prepared up - to - date consumer education booklets on these and many other topics. They are free to Oregonians. ♦ ♦ ♦ ELECTRIC FRY PANS with brown stains on the bottom have baffled many homemakers. When they pour fat from the pan, a little of it probably dribbles down the side. Grease from dishwater also gets on the bottom, if the pan is dunked after the dishes are washed. The invisible grease film on the bottom of the fry pan turns brown the next time it is heated. The stain is practically impos sible to scour off, but it's easy to prevent. Always wash the pan in clean, hot, sudsy water, rinse well and dry thoroughly. Then there’ll be no grease film on the outside. I * * * 6.99 t Z f > > Mrs. Bowen Entertains Mrs. Jack Bowen entertained Monday evening for members of the Faculty Bridge club with two tables in play. SHETLAND wood finishing. This also applies to natural wood kitchen cabinets. If panels or cabinets have been waxed, a liquid cleaning wax like that used on wood floors is good. A whiff of it will tell the home maker if it is the right type—it smells like dry cleaning fluid. This both cleans and waxes, but it has to be buffed. It needn’t be removed the next time you clean. Cream wax is also a good clean er. Don’t use self-polishing wax on wood panels. If the panels are varnished or lacquered, wipe with a damp (not dripping) cloth or sponge wrung out of sudsy water. Then dry with a cloth. Too much water can cause wood fibers to swell. • • • i Anniversary Dinner Served in Corey Home Would you pay 50* to shampoo your 9' x 12’ rug with professional results?
