FORMER JOURNAL OWNER
VISITS FROM CALIFORNIA
L. P. Thomas of Coloma, Calif.,
arrived Saturday morning in Nys
sa to tend to business matters and
was a visitor at the Journal office.
He was a house guest of Mr. and
Mrs. William E. Schireman during
his stay of several days.
Mrs. Thomas’ fatner, W i n
Brown, was original owner of the
Gate City Journal and at the same
time owned the Malheur Enter
prise in Vale. He succumbed in
1932.
Following his death, his daugh
ter, Mrs. Thomas, became owner
of the Journal and leased it to Mr.
and Mrs. W. F. McLing, who now
reside in Albany, Ore.
Berwyn Burke took over the
lease in 1935 and in August, 1937,
the Thomas couple became active
owners until the publication sold
in 1941 to Klass Powell, now of
Ontario.
