V Religion in Life Adrian United Presbyterian Church By the R P a u l Ludlow As we face the New Year we are l.ke A braham of old w ho “went out. not know.ng w here he was to go.” From the hu m an viewpoint the prospects m ay be bleak and fearful Some who read this may be u nder a sentence of death and have no reasonable hope of outlasting the year. O t h ers fear loss of job or health; all of us are aw are of possibility of war and atomic destruction. The prophets of doom ce rtainly have some basis for their pessimism Let us em bark upon the New Year with that spiritual quality, FAITH, a ttrib u ted to F a th e r Ab raham “By faith he sojourned in the land of promise.” F aith makes the difference betw e en despair and hope, for it rem inds us that God is infinite and beyond his tory yet is w orking in tim< md is the Lord of history. T he result of faith is the conviction that in all things God is working for good, th at even death loces its sting when sin is tw allow ed up in forgiveness. Therefor«', the per son of faith will see beyond the pessimism and see brighter pos sibilities of new friends, greater opportunities of service a n d growth in spiritual discernment. , Faith takes th e strain and a n x i ety from living by placing our confidence in a Higher Power. No longer do we need carry the whole load. Herndon, general representative of the board of church extension of Disciples of Christ from In dianapolis, Ind., Monday, Jan. 12, to attend a building fund set up meeting. The board of church e x t e n i o n provides five general services to the churches of the brotherhood, all designed to assist the local congregation in planning and fi nancing church building pro gram s These services include general and architectural counsel ing, fund raising, loans and d e pository services for church and individual savings. It ministers to the needs of C hristian chtlrches throughout the United States, Canada and foreign mission fields.
