To escape com m ent or criticism , do nothing, be nothing, say nothing. We forgot to com m ent last week that The Nyssa G ate City Jo u rn a l had a birthday and is going into its 54th y ear of publication in Nyssa. A nniversaries are fre quently overlooked now adays although a business is usually proud of its “age” ra th e r than being like an in dividual who reaches his 39th birthday once a year. In attem pting to visualize all the things th a t m ight have taken place during a 55-year period, we can do little m ore than point out that 2,756 issues of T he Jo u r nal have gone to the readers of the Nyssa com m unity. N ever has an issue of the paper failed to reach the post office som etim e during the week it was published. If it w ere possible to ascertain the m illions of w ords th a t have been w ritten, the history th a t has been re corded and the w eek-by-w eek accounts of happenings th a t affect those who started com m unities in this area and those w ho are now carrying on, the final analysis would be unbelievable, even to the present publisher. The G ate City Jo u rn al has had num erous ow ners and publishers and all of them have been a p a rt of life in the Nyssa and A drian com m unities. M any business firm s have come and gone during the Jo u rn a l’s 53 years of existence and it is obvious w ithout com m ent th at those still here outnum ber the ones th at fell by the w ayside for one reason or another. All of them have m ade your new spaper possible by th e ir continued support through the years, ju st as have the subscribers who read the w eekly new spaper each issue.
