It was a w hale of a battle all the w ay. The Nyssa B eetm en jum ped off to a three ru n lead in first inning on the stren g th of Adrian Defeated By Gaston "9" In Title Play The A drian A ntelopes cam e close, aw fully close, to w inning the sta te class “B” cham pionship w hen they clashed w ith G aston at M ultnom ah stadium in P o rt land S atu rday. S ix errors, four of w hich gave G aston tw o of its th ree runs spell ed the difference betw een the clubs. H atch alm ost m atched the w inning p itcher V an Loo pitch for pitch giving up but five hits w hile th e A ntelopes w ere collect ing four. G aston took a one-run lead in the first inning. T he A ntelopes k n o tted th e score in the top of the fifth w ith singles by Looney and S ay re connecting. G aston cam e back in the bot tom of th e fifth to go ahead 2-1. In th e top of the seventh and fi nal inning A drian tied the game. H artley singled to open the in ning. Looney reached first on an error. P rice sacrificed the ru n n ers along. C ulbertson struck out then T hom pson singled scoring H a rt ley. Looney, attem p tin g to score on the sam e single was nipped at the plate. Two erro rs in the crucial bot tom h alf of the seventh allow ed G aston to score the w inning ru n and cap tu re the cham pionship. It w as a tough gam e to lose and the A ntelope errors could be a t trib u ted to over-eagerness ra th e r th an to sloppy playing. But at th at, the area is proud of the A d rian team w hich w ent all the w ay to the big gam e on con sisten tly fine play. And folks in the P o rtlan d area now know w here A drian, and, we hope, N yssa is located.
