A Monoply Is Broken, Costs Go Up Who benefits from anti-trust actions0 W e ’ve read a lot about trusts and monopolies, but last week was the first time we have had an opportun ity to realize the "benefits” given to the down-trodden masses by government action. Eastman Kodak Co. was recently ordered to cease and disist, or something to that affect, from selling color film with the processing cost included in the original price of the film. That was a monoply, it seemed, and we were among the millions being pushed around fcv this big, bad company. Two weeks ago we had a chance to test the matter to our own satisfaction. A film purchased several months ago with the processing cost included was mailed back to the company the same day we mailed one of the new films to a smaller company. Eastman can no longer accept film for processing from an individual although it does almost all the color finishing in the west. You guessed it! The pictures processed according to government anti-trust whims were two days late in ar riving and the cost was 33Mi percent greater than that of the former “monopoly." Some do-gooder who brought the action at least has the satisfaction of "being right” in spite of millions of dollars in additional costs for the consumer. A New Amendment Is In Order Riders and amendments seem to be in order for Fed eral Aid to Education bills, the last of which was defeated when the Powell amendment restricting recipients to non-segregated schools was attached. If and when such a bill comes before Congress again, we want to add our pet amendment. W e propose that if federal funds are to be spent in areas where more class rooms are needed, more than $1,000,000 be returned to taxpayers of district 26C. These people — and there are hundreds of other solid American communities with the same kind of people — returned to the polls time and time again to vote taxes for enough class rooms to educate their children. In many cases they could ill afford the increased taxes and had to sacrifice somewhere else, hut they wefe doing such things long before current do-it-yourself craze. Some of the so-called class room shortages might stem from ambition shortage or an overdose of posterioritis. Christian Church Notes i and Mrs J A. Cindell Friday.
