Refreshm ents were served. Eagles Auxiliary meets T he regular meeting of the Eagles auxiliary was held at the Eagles hall at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening. Mem bers played cards for entertainm ent after the business m eeting was com pleted. Mrs. Robert Runcorn won the raffle gift. The next meeting is set for Oct. 21. Mrs. Jackson held a mis sionary service for the Unity Naza- rene church in which she showed slides of pictures taken while she and her husband were missionaries in Africa. Ur. C. M. Tyler left Wednesday morning on a big game hunting trip to Chamberlin Basin at Gordon Hay's ranch on Big Creek in Idaho. He expects to be gone until Wed nesday of next week. Mr. and Mis. Vance Smith of O n tario. Calif, arrived Friday evening for a week's visit a t the home of his parents, Mr and Mrs. W yatt Smitn. Mr. and Mrs. George N. Bear visited with Mr. and Mrs. Everett Lynn near Sheaville Sunday. Mrs. William Schireman's mother, Mrs. Paralee Kins-en returned home after four months’ visit with rela tives in Seattle. John House and Miss Katie Galli- ghan of Hereford. Ore., visited Sun day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Jones of Atkin son, Nebr. visited from Tuesday until Thursday of last week at the M arion Tracy home. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Snider and Ned spent Sunday in Boise. This is the way it works. On a tw o-lane roadw ay, you m ust stop w hen m eeting or overtaking a school bus which has halted to load or unload children. On roadw ays having three or m ore lanes, you m ust stop only if you’re traveling in the sam e direction as the bus. A fter having stopped, you m ust not proceed as long as any children are leaving the bus or crossing the roadw ay. To assist in holding traffic w hile children are crossing the road, all buses are equipped w ith red stop signal arm s. You m ust stop for the bus w hether or not the stop arm is displayed, t se of this signal by the bus driver sim ply indicates the situation requires you to rem ain stopped. Harper Winner In Canning Contest The H arper G range won first prize of $5 given by Pam ona G range for having the most entries per m em ber at a canning contest held last Thursday a t the Vale G range hall. H arper took top honors by having 32 people exhibiting 46 entries. Five Granges in the county were repre sented with 72 people entering 98 exhibits, Mrs. E dith G. Fullerton of Vale, announced. W inners in each class are to re ceive 50 pounds of sugar for first prize while second and third place winners in each class will receive 25 pounds of sugar. Mrs. Leona An derson of the Idaho Power company served - as judge. Prizes are being given by the A m algam ated Sugar The first prize entry in each class will be entered in the state contest which is scheduled for Nov. 3 in Portland There the first prize in canned tree fru it section Is a 12 cubic foot home freezer; in the berry division the prize is an auto m atic clothes dryer and the Jelly section winner will receive a nine- foot refrigerator. Drivers Appear. Find No Examiner Several potential drivers were con fused Tuesday of last week when they appeared a t the Nyssa city hall to take their drivers’ license tests and found th a t the exam iners were not there and city officials knew nothing about a change of date from alternate Fridays. The previous T hursday the O ate City Journal had announced the examiners would be here on Tues day. Oct. 7, as announced by the office of secretary of state. A notice had been received from the Salem office to th at effect, but according to City M anager E. K. Burton, the notice was in error since the exam iners did not come here until last Friday. This week another notice arrived from the office of Secretary of State Earl T. Newbry statin* the exam iners will be here Tuesday. Oct. 21. but Burton staled th a t they will not b* her* until Friday, Oct. 24.
