Oregon for transmission through the United States Malls, as second class matter, under the act o. March 3, 187k W E M A Y REAP TH E W H IR LW IN D The United States is sowing its money to the wind and it may reap a whirlwind for its altruistic efforts. This country has been helping Europeans and orientals with their food problems and now the president proposes loans of many millions to Turkey and Greece. In Greece we are to assume the role that England is no long er able to hold because of her own economic difficulties. The United States is finding itself more and more in the role o f the world’s keeper and some day we may have to insist on a new part in the world drama. W e really have been playing the role o f benefactor, but to many we have been fhe villain, using our wealth to exploit the poor little rich countries of the world and no amount of money the taxpayers of this country produce will change the minds of many foreign leaders, especially the Rus sians, who seem to doubt the sincerity o f our motives. W e know we can’t isolate this nation from the rest of the world, but surely caution and a realistic attitude would pay big divi dends.
