Avery Appointed Head Of Station The new superintendent of the eastern Oregon livestock branch ex periment station, succeeding Dick Richards, resigned, is Harry O. Av ery, who was for 20 years county agent in Union county before hie transfer to the central extension staff as assistant marketing spec ialist in 1941. In recommending Avery's app ointment, which took effect Jan uary 15. William A. Schoenfeld, dean and director of agriculture, stated that Avery’s technical train ing In both livestock and crop pro duction, and his long familiarity with the livestock and crop pro blems of the Blue mountain region make him particularly well suited to manage the branch station at Union. Avery was born and raised on a 730-acre livestock farm near Wake field, Kansas. He served In that state for 13 years, where he was considered one of the outstanding extension men, and then accepted a position as county agent In Union county, where he stayed for 20 years except for a leave of absence to complete work for a degree at Oregon State college.
