PIE R C E-M ATTH E W S The farewell tea. complimenting Mrs. Andrew Boersma. who Is to leave for Long Valley soon to live, given at the home of Mrs. Keith Bailey on Friday afternoonrwas one of the outstanding social events of the season. About forty guests and members of the Civic club called to pay their respects to the departing president of the club. Tea was poured by Mrs. Kenneth Cottle and Mrs. A. C. Sallee from a lace covered table on which was a graceful bowl of white chystanthe- mums and lighted long white tapers. A large sliver tea set was used and service was of fostroia. Mrs. Boers ma was presented with a linen lun cheon set o f modern design. Out of town guests attending were the house guests of Mrs. Gilbert Allsebrook. G IVE D INNER Mr. and Mrs. John E. Ostrum en tertained at dinner and cards on Friday evening. Their guests were Mr. and Mrs. C. Anderson and June, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Peterson and Naomi, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ostrum all of Emmett. PO W E LL-D ILLIO N David Powell, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Powell of Richland district was married to Miss Opal Dillion of Nampa Tuesday evening. The ceremony was performed by the groom’s lather. Reverend F A. Powell at a candlelight wedding at The Joy of Eating Mr. and Mrs. O. Z. Matthews an nounce the marriage of their daugh ter, Rosie, to Raymond Pierce Sun day the 23rd at the Baptist parson age at Payette by Reverend Strong. The bride wore a blue street dress with gold accessories. Ruth M at thews, sister of the bride was brides maid and Kenneth Pierce, brother of the groom was best man. After the ceremony, a wedding dinner was served to relatives and the family at the bride’s home. Mr. and Mrs. Pierce then left on a short honeymoon and will make their home in Nyssa. Sewell and Mr. and Mrs. John Sassenburg and daughter of Nampa, Jerald Jensen, of Salt Lake, Miss Elizabeth Grend- hal of Seattle and Mrs. Mary Jen sen and family of Nyssa had Christ mas dinner at the Clayton Jensen home. C. M. Tensen purchased 200 sacks of corn from Dick Groot. Mrs. Eva Quinley is on the sick list. C. M. Tensen put his sheep in the feed yard Tuesday and plans to start lambing the 5th. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Findling had Christmas dinner at the W. I. Find- ling home in Nyssa. Gene and Donald Willis of M c Call spent Tuesday afternoon at the John Lackey home. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Findling and son and Fred Koopman visited with Grandma Stam and Klaas in Ore gon Trail. Mrs. Earl Sherman and Kathryn of Weiser are visiting at the John Lackey home. Jack and Carl Dunaway are spending their vacations at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Dunaway. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bevins of Mar- sing. Idaho, visited at the Ina Marrs home Sunday. Clyde Mitchell and Russel Talbot were business visitors in Vale Thurs day. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Smith and children, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde M it chell and Loretta were Christmas dinner guests at the Marion Chard home in Oregon Trail. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Daves and daughters of Nyssa visited Eunday at the H. R. Fivecoat home. Alvin Marrs is staying with his grandfatherin Star. SUNSET V A L L E Y Owyhee school re-opened Monday after the Christmas holiday. Most of the children suffering from flu and colds were abel to resume their duties. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Newgen were Christmas dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs D. C. Mosely at aVle. Mr. and Mrs Sam Cates and the Homer Cates family spent Christ mas at the Russell Howell home. Bob Newgen. Jack and Helen R effett were afternoon guests in the same home. The Christmas program given on Tuesday night by the Sunset Valley Sunday school was well attended despite so much sickness. Only two children were absent. On Sunday word was received of the serious illness of John’s broth er and they were waiting develop ments before returning home. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schweitzer spent Christmas visiting relatives in Caldwell. Oscar Simmons from North of Nyssa was scouting around Sunday to try and locate his 3 head of hors es which had been gone for two weeks. Luckily he was hot on their trail. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Query and Sharon of Nampa and Jake Query of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, spent Tuesday night and Wednesday in the C. A. Ditty home. Mrs. Geraldine Probst and child ren of Bonanza, Oregon are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Fos ter. Mr. and Mrs John Vanderpool and children spent Christmas with her father, Dave Browning at Payette. Robert Ditty. Viola Hintz and L il ly Matthews of Nyssa took Sunday dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sieb- er of Parma. Mrs. Sieber and Miss Hintz are cousins. Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Brewer of On tario visited with their daughter, Mrs. Evans and family. The Evans who lived in the Owyhee district, recently moved to the L. B. Land- reth farm which they rented for the coming year. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Kendall and children ate Christmas dinner in the Ralph Gee home. Afternoon callers in the Charles Ditty home were: Mr. Forey and Mr Young from Nampa; also Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Brewer from Ontar io! Charles and Eldon Browning of Emmett came Saturday to spend a few days at the John Vanderpool home. Ira Foster did chores for Ivan T iffa n y while Ivan nursed a case of flu. Bill Bolitho drove to Melba and Kuna Tuesday and called on his and Mrs. Bolitho's mother. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Tunrer and children from Vale were Christmas dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cash Turner. H ie center of attraction was a nice Juicy turkey which weighed 28 pounds when dressed. Saturday night the annual Christ mas party for members o f the Worthwhile club and their families was held at the Cash Turner home. R IV E R V IE W Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Regan who have visited for the past month at Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Johnson's have left to return to their home in Gold- thwaite, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Kalght and daught -er, Dorothy are visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Bailey. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Thompson were Christmas dinner guests of the Vests. Mrs. Tom Loe and family had a family dinner at the Charles Frank home in New Plymouth, Idaho on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Bailey at tended a family reunion at the Les lie Bailey home in Vale. Oregon last Sunday. Jim Kelly, Allen Fulwider, George De Lashmutt, Jr. of Caldwell, Idaho, were visiting Mr. and Mrs. George DeLashmutt. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Seibenburg of Caldwell visited Sunday afternoon at the Tom Loe home. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mussolini and John Scott were Christmas dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Bailey. Lois DeLashmutt is visiting rela tives and friends in La Grande, Ore gon. Tommy Ogle is visiting Mr. and Mrs. McGinnis. The Stitch and Stew 4H club met in the home of Mrs. Walter Thomp son. House Party Miss Constance Hahn visited with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hahn over the Christmas holiday and on Christ mas eve entertained ten of her friends at a house party. Family Dinner On Thursday Mr. and Mrs. Bern ard Frost entertained at a family dinner party at which Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Brown and their chUdren of Weiser, Mrs. C. C. McVickers and her children of Payette, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Findling and their chU dren and E. S. Frost of Nyssa were guests. Dinner Guests Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Stunz and their children of Horse Shoe Bend, Idaho, had New Y ear’s dinner at the home of Mr. Stunz’s brother, Emil Stunz and Mrs. Stunz. On Sunday dinner guests at the Emil Stunz home were Mrs. Stunz’s sister, Mrs. Chet Tarleton and Mr. Tarleton and their sons o f Emmett and Mrs. Ruth Goode of Cascade. Tuesday Bridge Miss Eva Boydell entertained the Tuesday Bridge club at contract and dessert at her home on Friday even ing inviting four guests to play with the members. High scores were made by Mrs. Burnall Brown and Mrs. George J. Mitchell. Young People's Party Miss Helen SaUee entertained ten of her friends at a house party and midnight supper at the home o f her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Sallee on New Years eve. New Years Eve Party Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Beutler en tertained, ten guests at a new Years Eve party. Garden Club Members of the Garden club, their friends and families enjoyed a pot luck dinner and watch party at the Tom Johnson home on New Years eve. A short business meeting pre- ceeded the evening’s festivities. New Year Day Dinner Carl and Elmer Isaacson had as New Year's day dinner guest, Sil Sacco. Farewell Party A New Years party was given by Mr. and Mrs. John Low at their country home in Alberta Valley complimenting Mr. and Mrs. And rew Boersma. Guests for three tables of cards were invited and a late sup per was served. Visit from Emmett Mrs. H. B. Earp and Mrs. W. F. McLing visited with Mrs. Herschel Thompson on Thursday. College Sudents Leave There was a general exodus of college students from Nyssa over the week-end. June Marie Wilson left on Sunday evening for Eugene. A group of boys left in two cars for Corvallis and Eugene the same day. Among those to leave were Joe Robertson, Lloyd and Robert W il son, Huston Wilson, Jack Brodie, Paul Johnson and Stanley Ray. Hunter has received sev eral letters from her family in Eng land lately and has been grateful to learn that so far they have escaped any injury from bombing although they are living in the heavily bomb ed areas of New Castle, North Hum- berland and Shipley, Yorkshire.
