VOTERS SH O U LD C AST T H E IR B A LLO T S T U E S D A Y — R EGARDLESS o f how fondly we look back toward the “ horse and buggy days,” from a sentimental point o f view ; the man or the community traveling such a gait will sooner or later find they have been left far behind in the daily procession o f life. To progress, you must change and constantly select better methods to ward the end that efficiency will be served. One o f the things back in the “ horse and buggy” days is the Nyssa city charter adopted in 1903. A splendid document at the time, it has become mutilated by custom, progress and varied conditions until the city has a hard time following the word of law as laid down by the charter. The only thing needed is reasonable re vision and Tuesday the voters will have an op portunity to put the OK stamp o f approval on needed changes . . . or if the proposed improye- ments do not suit the voter, he or she naturally has the privilege o f voting their convictions. Any election, to be truly succesful, must re flect the opinion o f the majority, and the only way such an opinion can be recorded is by the ballot. Free speech, free press and the voting franchise are things worth fighting fo r; Every citizen owes a duty as a loyal citizen of Nyssa to go to the polls Tuesday and vote as their con science dictates. ------------------ + ------------------ MORE JOBS FOR GRADS TH IS Y E A R — (Caldwell News-Tribune) F OR the first time in a number of years, col lege graduates this spring will be able to find jobs without too great difficulty. There are, ac cording to recent surveys, jobs to find. So marked has been the improvement that the Bureau o f Industrial Service in New York finds that employment prospects for college graduates this year are only slightly less favor able than in 1929 and far better than 1936. Characteristic, too, o f the prevalent practice before the depression, major business concerns are recruiting many o f the grads. General Elect ric, Du Pont, Proctor and Gamble, Westing- house and various subsidiaries o f the American Telephone and Telegraph Company are once more taking the-cream o f young America from Commencement rostrums. It is a good omen. One of the peculiarly unfor- cap that it placed in the path o f American young tunate effects of the depression was the handi- men and w omen. Anxious to get started on their life ’s work, there was no place to start. The e f fect was many It adaed to the nation’s un- iy fold. l employed rolls, probably contributed materially to the participation o f youths in criminal ven tures, sent thousands o f both boys and girls over the country, living a nomadic existence and made marriage and the establishment o f homes impossible. It is a brighter future that faces young men and women today. W e celebrate July 4th as the birthday of the nation, but Mothers Day goes deeper. Nyssa's enrollment in its school this year was 316 pupils. Nyssa will soon have a new up-to- date gas and oil station which is now being erected on the corner of First and Main Street The men who are malting the venture are Messrs J. J. Cancelmo and C. M. Tensen. S. P. Poster has just installed a nice new fountain which will be quite an acquisition to his store It will insure good cocl drinks dur-ng the hot weather. Mrs. Victor Yeager of Baker v si ted several days last week with her sis ter Mrs S. Rose. The Gordon Dicksons attended Pomona at the Snake River Grange last Saturday week. The community meeting met last Saturday night with a very good crowd. Those in charge of the excel- ent program consisting of several short plays, readings and songs; and praised by every one; were the Miss es M ary Weir, Adeline Pish and Nellie Cape After the program danc ing was enjoyed and a nice supper served.
