When a brakeman arrived In Nyssa on a freight train last Thursday, he was looking for the chief of police. He had purchased a pair of gloves at the Invitation of a pa ssenger who was riding an open air pullman with eleven com rades, each of whom had a bundle. Upon arriving In Nyssa, the brakeman looked up Marshal A. V. Cook, stating that he believed the men might be the ones who had robbed a box car near Boise last week. He believed the gloves might be stolen loot. Cook lined up the round dozen. He went through their bundles and through their clothes. Nor was the search fruitless. Each man carried a “red” calling card, red in color and red In portent, signifying paid up membership In the I. W. W. organization. Cook was not sorry to see the vtistors take the next freight out. However Malheur county voted with Oregon on re peal of the state prohibition law, Income tax and hydro-electric bill which are assured success. County and state swatted the school mov ing, truck regulation and Rogue river closing bills. Malheur favored the oleo mar garine tax which failed to pass In the state. Measures for tax sup ervision and control and educa tional appropriations failed to pass, while the state approved the measure limiting the ballot on certain Issues to property owners. The county voted as follows: For Repeal— Yes 1691 No 1477. Income Tax— Yes 1487 No 1112. Hydro-Electric— Yes 571 ................. No 987.
