a day in Vale without trying
his luck in the best phesant dis
trict in Oregon. So friends bor
rowed George Carey’c hunting
dogs, Stanley Mallett and J. H.
Russell secured the firearms
and ammunition and out to the
Russell field they went. Mr.
Pheasant appeared on the scene
and bang! went Mr. Kay’s rifle.
Imagine his chagrin when the
rooster gracefully
flew away.
After
scouting around more
pheasants were sighted and Mr.
Kay carefully fired again and
again.
Results were the same
but at this junture the traitors
laughed and Mr. Kay discovered
that the rifle had been loaded
with blank cartridges. To turn
the joke, Mr. Kay then proceed
