M cCarty shipped in a carload of bees fhis week from K una, Idaho, and located a p a rt of the lot across the river from Gamble Island on the Oregon side. The balance o f the car was divided up among his other yards. Nyssa is beginning to be noted for its bee industry, th ere being about 2500 stands in the vicinity. George H. Bodfish, the M alheur City m erchant, was in N yssa looking a fte r property in ter, sts Monday. Mr. Bodfish is greatly interested in the J o u rn a l’s new linotvpe machine and was one of the first to respond to our request for advance subscriptions with which to pay for installing the machine, rem it ting $5 for th a t purpose. Mrs A. P Gibson received a letter this week from her brother, Earl Johnston, who is with the arm y of oc cupation in Germany. Mr. Johnston was buried under several feet of ear.h by a 75 centim eter shell striking with in a few feet of him ju s t before the arm istice w as signed and suffered se verely from shell shock and is ju st recovering from the effects. He received his discharge from the naval service a t Philadelphia, w here he has been stationed for the past month. D uring his service A lbert had a num ber of thrilling encounters w ith the subm arines and several narrow es capes. but cam e out unscathed. Ja c k N ewby was on th e stre e ts Wed nesday for the first tim e since be was buried by a cave-in in the drainage canal a couple of w eeks ago. He is considerably the worse for w ear yet, and it ia only because the doctor is aw ay th a t he dared to venture out bo soon. He describes the sensation of being buried under several feet of e a rth as being very unpleasant, to say the least. Sidney Burbidge left on No. 6 Mon day evening en route to his old home in England, w here his p aren ts and o th er relatives live. Sidney came to th>s country about five years ago and is now a full fledged A m erican Citizen and recently received his discharge from Uncle S am 's arm y. This is his first v isit home since leaving England and his many friends here wish him all kinds of joy on his trip. In one of his memoirs he thus Illustrates his conception: “W ith dividers describe a plane of m atter of loose texture, and in the center add a very small circle; draw a line through the center.
