more its time to think of buying
presents, stocking stuffers. can

in town and enables the store

dise for vour approval

a reality. you will have to depend
upon these sam e business people
to provide you with not only the
luxuries but the necessities that
you have com e to depend upon

to patronize them now for if the

better able to cope with and meet

an allocation of 883.766 of State
Funds by the Emergency Board
to the Mass Transit Division of
the Department of Transporta
tion for an 18—month Special
Transportation Program which
will include Columbia County
This money will be matched by
federal and local participation
The special
transportation
program also includes Jackson
County, Ontario. Albany-Linn,
Portland and the Dalles, in
providing service for Senior
Citizens
Holmstrom. Senate Majority
Leader and co-Chairman of
Ways and Means, was called on
for assistance early this year
because the transportation ser
vice which had been operating in
Columbia County was jeopar
dized by the lack of operating
funds
In the original request Col
umbia County was not included
in the pioneer pilot project, the
first o f ps kind in the United
States by the Special Committee
on Aging However working
closely with Dorothy Churchill.
Columbia County Council of
Senior Citizens and with the
Mass Transit Division, Holm
strom was able to secure support
which led to the inclusion of
Columbia County
The areas
serving Senior Citizens include

High School, on a three-hours
per night basis for ten weeks, it
was announced today by Art
Parrow. Principal of Vernonia
High School
The class will problablv meet
each Thursday night from 7 until
10 p.m . starting Dec 6 It will
cover basic stick welding, gas
cutting, rod selections, metal
stresses, and costs The class
will be sponsored by Portland
Community College and the fee
rates will be announced later
