by John Knowlton

of the biggest tournaments ever
in this area. The tournament is
the Nehalem Valley Open The
tee off time is Sunday, Sept
ember 9, from 7 a m to 12 noon.
The place is the Vernonia Golf
Course.
And the prize money is $175.
The money will be awarded to
the top five finishers in the
tournament which will be played
under the Callaway Handicap
System. In addition, a $10 gift
certificate will go to the player
with the low gross score.
Several players have been
sharpening their gam es in the
last week or so to get ready for
the tournament. Larry Borst
burned up the course and Sam
Beardsley when he shot a life
time best 32 for nine holes. Sam
was Larry 's opponent and shot a
respectable 37 on that nine but
couldn’t keep up with Larry’s
birdies which cam e on number
four, seven, eight and nine
However Sam did get a gift
certificate for getting KP on the
fourth hole in last Tuesday’s
Men’s night play. Joe Magoff,
whose gam e has picked up
considerably in the last few
weeks, picked up a prize for the
second week in a row when he
captured low net Jack Wendling
tied with Sam Beardsley for low
gross honors and Dan Fletcher
continued his winning ways for
the third week in a row by
dropping in the long putt.
