Ora Bolmeier Graduates With Class Of 7 3 CHARLES ROBBINS Charlie Plans To Join Navy Charles Bennett Robbins. VHS senior, was born in Omak. Wash ington on October 14. 1954 Charlie is a five foot, nine inch, 130 pound, brown haired, blue eyed, eighteen year old senior He is the son of Jake and Lucille Robbins His father. Jake is a disabled logger and his mother. Lucille is currently working at Mario's restaurant in the heart of downtown Vernonia He has two sisters. Linda and Sue. both married, and two brothers. Ron and Rob Ron is married, also Charlie lived in Omak until he was five-years-old. then moved to Vernonia He lived for about five months in Vernonia then moved to Tillamook, where he lived until he was fifteen Then he moved back to Vernonia. His hobbies are motorcycles, and after graduation he plans on joining the navy and becoming an auto motive mechanic While in high school he has be longed to FFA and has done jan i torial service for school district during the past year, and has work ed for the school for the past two summers Charlie’s favorite color is blue; his favorite class is civics and favorite food, macaroni and cheese. If he had one nish in the world it would be to be a drummer in a rock group His biggest gripe is: ‘People knocking long hair." The funniest thing he ever did was when he burned his hand and cooled it off in this brother Rob s fish bowl and killed the fish Well, after 24 years of teaching at VHS. Mrs Ora Bolmeier has de cided to retire The well-known and well-like teacher, who has taught eight plus subjects in her career, has the urge for some of the better things in life. Mrs Bolmeier graduated from North Dakota Stale University in 19X1 From there, she and her hus band moved to Erie. North Dakota where she taught for a few years She moved to Vernonia in 194« and started teaching here in 1949 In her long career, she has taught chorus, typing. German. Latin, English, history, P E, Psychology, and. just to fill time, she has taught several trifling subjects Mrs Bolmeier has been the dean of girls for the last 21 years She is also listed in the "Who’s Who of American Women" and "Who's Who in the West." When asked what she plans to do' after this year, she said that some of the things she can do now are going to the beach whenever she wants to and sleeping late in the morning She plans on substituting when ever she is needed Principal A r thur Parrow also wants her to re write the school board's handbook, but Mrs Bolmeier says she doesn't know whether or not she will. Mrs Bolmeier said that there are no extra special years in her teach ing career; they were all out standing in her mind. But her one criticism is that youth doesn’t realize the great opportunity that they have by going to school. After a few months of retirement, Mrs Bolmeier will probably get bored of her spare time and come back to VHS to teach for another 24 years On Friday. June 1. it was reported by Becky Curl, that their father duck. Donald, and his two children. Miny and Moe. had been found Steve Potter, one of Vernonia's reserve policemen, is the one who found them He said that they were running around on the street after a black labrador chased them, so he picked them up so that they wouldn't get hit Steve took the ducks to the home of a friend of his. who had facilities for keeping the ducks, and he kept them temporarily until the owners were found Donald's wife. Donna, was very much upset at her husband's dis appearance and wouldn't eat or sleep She could hardly wait until he returned and they are now both very happy again Donald and Donna have started a new family as Donna is setting on 14 Ridge Riders Plan 2 Rides The Vernonia Ridge Riders had their second meeting on May 31. Tom is the third largest boy in the senior class His size has greatly helped him to be a good football player He was on the football team his junior and senior year. His junior year he played guard and his senior year he played both offensive and defensive tackle. Tom also played basketball his sophomore year, and participated in track his junior and senior years. He has been active in Paul Bunyon. since he was in sports, and FFA Tom has been a member of both Paul Bunyon and F FA for three years. He was treasurer of F FA his senior year. Tom says he likes Vernonia better than Tillamook because the school is smaller and "you get to know the teachers and students better One bad thing," he says, “ is that everyone knows everything about you, too." After graduation. Tom plans to attend the Institute of Technology in Dallas. Texas, and go into elec tronics JEFFREY RECK Music Enjoyed By Jeffrey R. Jeffrey Lynn Reck doesn't look like he is a music lover, but he is. He says that he loves all kinds of music, from rock to classical Jeff was born to Ralph and Violet Reck on January 26. 1955 in Tor rance, California From there, he moved to Sacramento; then to Springfield. then to Vernonia where he has lived for the past seven years Jeff finds that living with seven brothers and sisters is similar to going to school To keep from going bananas. Jeff has had to develop quite a lew interests Jeff is pro bably most known for his reading On the average. Jeff reads about three paperback books a week, but his record is six. He also likes to collect coins and cacti. Jeff has turned out for four years of wrestling, two years of cross country, and one year of track After graduation, Jeff plans on going on a mission for three years but he doesn’t know if he will go to college Jeff says that the only thing wrong with Vernonia is that there are not enough things to do. If Jeff were in charge of running the school, he would make chorus a two-liour block and he would add more foreign languages. Marsha Siurdevant Youth of the Month Marsha Sue Sturdevant, a VHS senior, has been selected as the “ Youth of the Month” for the "Ore gon Freemason ” The “Oregon Freemason" is a monthly magazine sponsored by the Masonic lodge throughout the state. The magazine recognizes a youth in high school each month as their "Youth of the Month " The article included a picture of Marsha and a very nice story telling Marsha's future plans, which in clude going to Linfield to study Pre Med The story also included her services to the community, Rainbow and to VHS Marsha was chosen for this recog nition because she has gone through most of the offices in Rainbow which include being Past Worthy Advisor of the Nehalem Assembly No 18. of the Order of Rainbow for Girls MIST—Mr.and Mrs. Fred Busch, Mark, and Alberto Allegre were at Timberline Lodge one day during the Memorial Day weekend They visited the Robert Van Winkles at Sandy, also Last Saturday evening the family attended baccalaureate services for Mark and Alberto at Vernonia High School. The Steve Warings, Portland, and the Dick Vaughans of Estacada attended the graduation exercises Friday even ing at Vernonia. Afterwards, they joined the Busch family at their home for a party given in the boys’ honor Alberto Allegre talked to his father in Mexico Sunday evening, receiving the call as a graduation gif, from Mike Busch M r and Mrs. Walter Mathews attended the birthday buffet supper at the Douglas Bacca home in honor of Mrs. Bacca’s birthday last Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Clark of Hillsboro had dinner with the Mathews Memorial Day, after the two couples had decorated graves at the Vernonia Cemetery. Memorial Day guests at the Shal- mon Libel home were Mrs. Clara Libel, Floyd Libel. Mr. and Mrs. Francis Burnham, the Jack Bum- ham family, and Marlene Storey, all of Portland; and Lawton Wad dell of Mis,. Dr. and Mrs. Everett Jones and family, Portland, were visitors Memorial Day. M IST—Wha, was to be a Memor ial weekend backpacking and fish ing trip for Randy Hansen, Steve and Bill Hanson of Corvallis, and Ed Burton on Hock Creek ended sooner then planned when the rain arrived Mrs. Steve Hanson joined them Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Dale Dressel, North Bonneville, visited her folks, the Willard Garlocks, over Saturday night. Becky Chase of Scio, also was an overnight visitor. The Terry Arsons of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Fred l^irson and Dennis visited her folks Sunday. Gene Kyser returned home from Fores, Grove Community Hospital May 23, where he had been a patient following an accident at school the Monday before. He returned to school May 29. The Larry Garlocks, and Wilmer Pickerings of Clatskanie left Friday afternoon to go camping through Sunday afternoon at Fort Stevens. Clam digging was enjoyed while there. Shetlers Visit At Grants Pass MIST—The Eldon Shetler family spent Friday and Saturday at Grants Pass. Enroute, they visited at the Dave Roth home at Winston, Friday While there, her parents, the Jacob Roths of Dayton, Samuel Roth of Winston, and Rosana Roth of Mexico City arrived to visit. Rosana is home on furlough from her missionary work in Mexico. Fores, Shetler attended high school graduation exercises that evening at Winston. In Grants Pass, the Shetler family attended the annual picnic and ballgame at the New Hope Christian School which their son, Robin, attends. While at Grants Pass, they stayed with Rev. Amos Buckwalter. M r and Mrs. Kenneth Smith, Willamina, visited at the Charles Sundland home last Tuesday. Feature Added At Hone Show Ucrnonia Eagle 8 THURSDAY, JTJNE 7, 1973 Helping Circle Meets May 24 at Mist Home A, leas, one firs, will be ac complished at the4-H Benefit Horse Show to be held next Saturday, June 9, at the county fairgrounds in St. Helens. The open show will have a sidesaddle class in addition to 28 other individual classes The side saddle division marks the first time this class has been included in the annual 4-H benefit horse show As of Monday, four entries had already been received for the side saddle class, including Jayne P ur vis of Scappoose. Other entrants are Chris Simpson, Lake Oswego, Ran dy Wilson, Washougal, Wash.; and Christy Van Dyke, Forest Grove. Some of the other classes on tap to offer top notch entertainment for showgoers include showmanship. English Pleasure, English Equita tion, Trail Horse and Barn Yard Jumping. The benefit show, sponsored by the Columbia County 4-H Horse Leaders Association, is open to all 4-H clubs in the state The proceeds from the show all are to be used for the 4-H center in Salem that is used to benefit 4-H clubs around the state. Judges for the show will be Jackie Hurle, McMinnville; Mona Phelps, Oregon City and Mrs Kathy Van Dyke, Forest Grove. MIST—The Mist Helping Circle met May 24, at the home of Mrs Doug Barr The June meeting will lie held at the home of Mrs Joe Lonnquist at Birkenfeld. Jepson Ixmnquist, Eldon Shetler and Melody, Forest and Connie Kyser were at Troutdale last Sat urday to help clean the camp grounds for the American Sunday School Camp That evening, Mr and Mrs Shetler were at Hubbard to attend Mrs. Shetler’s class re union of 1950 at the Sterling Roth home. The Fores, Grove Branch of the RI.DS Church held services at the Walter Mathew's home Sunday, May 27. There were nearly 70 in attendance. Potluck dinner was served following the services. Dave Crawford’s Aunt Margaret and husband arrived May 27 to visit a, the Crawford and Archie Horgan homes. Memorial Day, the Horgans and Bobby McClure, the Dave Crawford and Butch Crawford fam ilies, and their guests were at Wheeler for the day The families attended commencement services at Vernonia High School for Nor man. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Waring of Portland visited the Crawfords Sunday afternoon, enroute to their home in Portland. South Korea had 35,000 troops in South Vietnam. J? She has not seen Mrs Stelle since 1944, and Mrs. Berg since 1958 Congratulations are in order for Mark Busch, Norman Crawford, and Kay Grimsbo upon receiving their diplomas Friday evening. Cori Carle and Melody Shetler received their 8th grade certificates Wed nesday afternoon in an assembly at the Washington Grade School M r and Mrs Lloyd Garlock were in Portland visiting the Rose City, Lincoln Memorial, and Willamette National cemeteries. May 26 The next day, Sunday, they attended morning and evening church ser vices in Portland Memorial Day, Mrs Charles Wallace and girls of Hillsboro, the Ray Garlocks, Vern Wagner. Gary, Lloyd and Berniece enjoyed a picnic at Fishhawk Lake. Mrs. Nettie Cox and Mrs. Martin Hanson were in Clatskanie Satur day. Mrs. Cox visited Mrs Cordie Shav. Later, the three ladies were in Longview and visited Mrs Shaw’s daughter and husband They also visited a teacher friend of Mrs Hanson's, who taught at the Apiary School with Mr. Hanson.
