Columbia County’s Extension stu dy groups were represented by six members at this year's annual con- lerence, now in its 41st year. Ttie program of workshops, for mal sessions and section meetings were devoted to facets of family living of current and vital interest to homemakers. Among highlights were a work shop devoted Io consumer prob lems. with three state officials participating: Wanda M errill. Con sumer Services Division. Oregon Department of Commerce; Jane Wyatt. Consumer Officer. Oregon Department ot Agriculture; and W Michael Gillette, chief counsel. Consumer Protection Division. Ore gon Department of Justice. Mrs Homer Rice of Milwaukie, member of the North Clackamas school board and the consumer homeinaking advisory committee of the Slate Department of Educa tion. spoke on "Women as Com munity Citizens" at the Tuesday evening banquet. Speaking on "Being a Woman Today" was Helen G. Wilson. Director of Public Relations and professor of English and Non-West ern Studies at Northwest Nazaiene College in Nampa. Idaho. The pre-school offers a wide variety of play equipment, ex- pressive m aterials and learning experiences not available at home. There was one felony arrest for theft made by the Vernonia Police Department according to the April report handed into the city council Monday night under the signature of Chief of Police Jack Cunning ham. The report also showed one mis- deamenor thett and three burglar ies. one of them later cleared by arrest; and $40 in property re covered. Under traffic violations the report listed 9 warnings and 2 citations issued for VBR’s; one warning and 2 citations for disobeying stop signs; 1 citation improper turn; two warnings for hazardous moving violations and 8 for violations of vehicle laws There were 2 citations issued for driving without a license; 4 M IP ’s; 4 listed under Other Muni cipal Ordinances; 14 for parking violations and 1 for more noise than necessary One warning was issued for parking violation The department investigated 2 traffic accidents; assisted at one fire call; located 1 missing person; and answered 10 miscellaneous complaints There were 14 business houses found open while 6 suspicious per sons were checked Assists to other departments totaled 5 with ambu lance calls 2; 1 suicide attempt; 1 dog b ite ; 5 health violations; and 6 animal complaints. Records also showed four juve nile referrals; 2 crim inal mischief complaints, one cleared; and 1 arrest for other agencies. Reserve officers, 6. recorded 1.29 unpaid hours while the police car logged 3.253 miles and truck showed 102 miles. The 4 y e a r old class w ill meet twice weekly.
