F T A Receives New Plaque For Teachers On Wednesday, January 3. the VHS F T A chapter received the new Teacher of the Y ear plaque A few months ago F T A voted on getting a new plaque, for the old one was outdated and wasn't in good shape The new plaque consists of 12 spaces for engraving, six of which have the names of past Teachers of the Y ea r The plaque is 12" x 15", and the wood is made of walnut The total cost was »21 72. F T A ’s new plaque was put up on the left side of Principal Arthur Parrow 's office. VHS wrestling coach had no comment Loggen Rip Corbett JV’» Friday January 5, the VHS JV basketball team ripped the Corbett Cardinals as they traveled to Cor bett to open their league season In the first quarter, the Loggers built a 12 to o lead, mostly off fast break buckets, then opened up the lead to 23 to 4 by the end of the first period The Loggers completely dominated the first half, blitzing the Cards at both ends of the court They shot 49 percent from the field while stopping the Cards' offense cold At the end of the second quarter the Loggers held a 33 to 9 lead The diggers breezed through the second half, holding a 41 to 14 lead at the third stop, and finishing with a lop-sided 60 to 21 victory The Diggers out rebounded the Cards 40 to 28. with Scott E llis leading Vernonia with nine Scoring for Vernonia was as follows Holsey 14, Crowston 13, E llis 8. Bailers Intram u ral basketball for VHS boys started last Thursday, Janu ary 4. with team No 1 taking or team No 2 Team No. 1 was tht victor of this hectic basketball game, which consisted of many laughs Every year for the past two or three 20 to 30 boys have participated in intram ural basketball which can only consist of boys who are not out for Varsity. JV or freshmen basket ball The boys are organized and divided into teams which play during noonhours for recreation and exercise This year the Paul Bunyan Club is in charge of organizing the games, with Gordon Crowston acting as the advisor. The final score after their nine teen minutes of play was 20 to 6 Scores for the opening gam e were: M ark Busch 8, M ike Smiley 5, Scott Cameron 5, and Chuck Craw fdrd 2 for the winning team ; and Lane Daughtry 4. and Ed Becker 2. for the losing team Spectator!
