IS WOMEN'S LEAGUE The 1972 Portland Boat. Trailer, and Sport Show will open at 1 p m. Saturday, January 15 in the Memorial Coliseum with balloon r .ices, a panorama of mountain climhing thrills and demonstrations of camping know-how high on its all-the-family program. Nightly balloon races in the coliseum arena will be the show's most unusual feature The balloons will be oiloted by ex-airline ste wardesses and radio personalities. In past years the Boat Show has come up with such specials as a wrestling tiger, a wrestling alliga tor and an effectionate killer whale Indoor balloon racing may be an other "world’s first." All aspects of outdoor recrea tion will be stressed in three ac res of exhibits and demonstrations Boats ranging from $50,000 luxury cruisers to sailing dinghies are cen tral in the exhibition, but do not dominate it. Landlubbers have equal space in extensive showings of vacation trailers, campers and other recreational vehicles fishing and hunting gear and the equip ment of a dozen other outdoor fun pursuits. Builders to Attend Special Short Course Builders throughout the North west are being invited to a "West ern Builders Short Course” to be presented in Portland Friday and Saturday . February 11 and 12. Sponsors are the Home Builders of Metropolitan Portland and the Oregon State University Coopera tive Extension Service Sessions will be conducted in the Thunder- bird Motor Inn on Hayden Island. Many of the sessions will be "triple-headers" with three pro grams going on simultaneously, to cover different fields of interest within the building profession One section will emphasize design, a second will cover financial and le gal aspects and a third will con centrate on building techology and methods, particulary with re spect to wood products Curriculum coordination is under direction of Ralph W. Rogers, co ordinator of the Extension Service Housing Education Program. "We will have programs of interest to everyone.” he said. "Including the woman in building, the individual builder and the large builder or ganization." Speakers of regional and nation al note will be presented at lunch and dinner meetings Special fea tures on marketing are planned and there will be an audio-visual center showing slides and movies relating to building.
