New Years Eve Wedding Rites Unite Hartzell - Hancock Poinsettias and Holly decorated the Vernonia Evangelical Church New Y ear’s eve when Claracy Ann Hartzell became the bride of Eve rett (Butch) Hancock in a candle light ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Hartzell, longtime residents of Ver noma The groom is the son of Mr and Mrs. C.A. Hancock of Troutdale, Oregon. Rev. Jack Carlson, pastor of the Evangelical Church, preformed the double ring ceremony. The bride, escorted to the altar by her father, wore a snow white empire pcau-de-soie gown enhanced with long puffed sleeves of French sheer nylon. A finger tip tulle veil w is highlighted with a velvet bow VEA Meeting Held Jan. 11 ItOSSKR - STIPE Evening Ceremony Chosen for Rosser-Stipe Wedding Rites In an evening ceremony, De cember 21, Miss Patricia Rosser of Hillsboro became the bride of Paul Stipe, son of Mr. and Mrs Arthur Stipe, Portland The 7:30 p m services were per formed by Rev. Herbert A F a rra r at the Calvery Baptist Church of Hillsboro, amid decorations of red and white poinsettias against a back ground of holly. Given in m arriage by her bro ther. Michael Rosser, the bride, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rosser of Vernonia wore a floor length gown of white Chan tilly over taffeta with a fitted bo dice, long fitted sleeves and hoop ed skirt. Her txniffant veil of illu sion fell from a headpiece of lace and satin. She carried a fan cover ed with red and white poinsettias ac cented by satin stream ers. Matron of honor, Mrs. Michael Rosser, and bridesmaids Mrs. Den nis Rotx-rtson and Patricia Rehse wore identical gowns of floor length red velvet with empire waist They carried cascade bou quets of red and white poinsettias Flower girl Linda Stipe, sister of the groom, carried a white basket filled with red and white puinset tes Brother of the groom, Warren Stipe, was best man while another brother, Gary Stipe, and James Sanfilippo acted as ushers. Approximately 75 guests attend ed a reception given at the home of the groom following the cere mony Among the guests were Mr*. I » •5 a Lois Hoffman, of Newberg, and Mrs. Frances Stipe from Lorain, Ohio, both grandmothers of the groom The form er Miss Rosser, a 1968 graduate of Vernonia High School was employed by Tektronix in Beaverton prior to her marri age. The groom attended Sunset High and Oregon Technical Institute. He is presently serving with the Seabee's in the U.S. Navy. Following a wedding trip' to the Oregon coast and Lincoln City, the new Mr. and Mrs. Paul Stipe are at home in Oxnard, California where the groom is attending Navy Sea bee school at Port Hueneme. Arts and Crafts to Meet Mon., Jan. 17 Monday, January 17, at 7:30 p.m the Arts and Crafts Society will meet at West Oregon Electric con ference room. The tole painting of fruits will be covered. Those people interested in oil painting are asked to bring their canvas and equipment The Vernonia Education Associa tion held their January 11th meet ing in the teacher’s lunch room of the Washington Grade School. The minutes were read and approved and all bills were read and pay ment approved. A report from the Teacher E val uation Committee was given by Coleen O’Neil. Quite an extensive study has been made by the com mittee and further study is forth coming. A lengthy discussion fol lowed concerning the now existing evaluation form and possible chan ges. Coleen O’Neil moved we ap point a teacher-principal-supervi sory committee to draw up some possible evaluation forms and pro cedures to be presented to the as sociation at the February m eet ing. President Glenda Jones appoint ed Ginger Johns, Marcia Sander- man, and Ward Nelson as a no minating committee to prepare a list of nominations for the 1972-73 year’s officers and to present it at the next meeting. Ward Nelson and Alvilda Hear ing were appointed to plan the spring dinner meeting at which In stallation of next year’s officers will be held. It was decided by motion that the dinner meeting would be held out of town this year. Tentative dates are April 28, May 5, or May 12. Copies of the present constitution and a list of suggested revisions were passed out for the associa tions inspection early in the m eet ing. Later. Chris Boyle, member of the Constitution Revision com mittee went over each area to be revised. Further changes were sug gested from the group. Members were asked to look over their cop ies and let the committee know any other changes that could be made. Another report will be made at the February meeting. Vietnam, roommate of Heather Higginbotham, both sophomores at Pacific University, spent Christ mas vacation from December 18 to January 9 With the Ralph Higgin- hotham family. They enjoyed learning about her country and customs. She prepared Vietnamese meals while here. She is in the U.S. for four years, studying with a scholarship from her country. She may return to Saigon this summer to visit her family: 5 brothers and two sisters. Heather Higginbotham went to Seattle for New Years weekend to visit her fiance’s relatives. She carried a white Bible with white streamers topped with a cynbidium orchid. For some thing old she wore a cameo which was a gift given her father by the mayor of the Isle of Capri when he was stationed there in 1944 Maid of honor Nancy Hartzell, sister of the bride, wore a floor- length gown of lime green flocked broadcloth. It was highlighted with a white bow at its empire waist and bell ¡.leeves of lime chif fon. She carried a nosegay of la- vendar daisies. Kathelene Hartzell, sister of the bride, wearing a short lavender dress like Nancy’s, a t tended the guest book. The best man was uncle of the groom Thomas llencock of Port land. The bride’s brother, Ray mond. and uncle, Ralph Sturdevant both of Vernonia, served as ushers. The reception was given by the bride’s parents at their home. It was decorated with the bride’s colors, green and white, with strea mers meeting over the refresh ment table. The three tiered cake decorated with white roses with a touch of green on the leaves, topped with the traditional bride and groom, was served by the bride’s aunt, Mrs. Ralph Sturdevant. Coffee was served by Mrs. Richard Baker and punch served by Mrs. Elm er Goodman, friends of the newly weds. The bride, who has lived in Ver nonia all her life, graduated from Vernonia High in 1968 and is now employed by Flectronic Specialty as a relay calibrator. The eroom graduated from Rey nolds High in Portland in 1966. He also attended Eastern Oregon Col lege and Mt. Hood College of Edu cation. He is now a security officer for Metropolitan Security.
