Stephen Waite visited Vernonia May IS and 16 to attend the dinner given by the Masonic Lodge. He also par ticipated in the International Paper golf tournament, and Mrs. Waite renewed a few friendships. Mr. and Mr». L. H. Thomas were at Forest Grove Saturday for the Music in May concert in which several Vernonia high school students participated. The previous week, on Thurs day evening, the Thomases and Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Sullivan were at Beaverton to attend a kindergarden program in which their grandson, Eric Thomas took part. Saturday of that week, the Thomases, Sullivans, and Mrs. Lois Clark and daugh ter Mary Anne were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Thomas at Bea verton as a Mother’s Day ob servance. The college had numerous events scheduled throughout the day, which they report enjoying very much. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Valpiani accompanied by Mrs. Emilia Corsiglia of St. Helens, were in Portland Sunday afternoon to attend the final performance of “The Sound of Music” , at the Chapman school auditorium. Mr. and Mrs. Jones are the son and daughter-in- law of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Jones and Mrs. Jones parents are Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ritz of Vernonia. Dinner guests last Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Frank Lange were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Clark and daughter Jennifer, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Clark who are on leave from the church mis sion school at Osaka. Japan. They will be in the states until December. The Paul Clarks left Monday for their new location at Lake Tahoe, California. Sandon entered the Forest Grove Community hos pital last Saturday and under went surgery Tuesday of this week. Mrs. Harry Junken of Hillsboro, has been a patient at the Tua- lity hospital for the past week or more. Mrs. L. E. Stiff call ed on her Saturday and found her improving. DEMOCRAT for Columbia County Mrs. Mabel Graves went to Portland last Friday to attend the senior play given that eve ning at the Christian high school. Two of her granddaugh ters, Ruth and Sarah Graves, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Hale Graves, were in the play. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Graves of Tigard brought her home Saturday. Sean McKenney, who is a nephew of Mrs. Val piani, was formerly with the New Christy Minstrels and has appeared on all major network television shows, including those of Ed Sullivan, Andy Wil liams and Dean Martin. Presi dent Bill Harkson will call the session to order at 7:30 p.m. Included on the agenda will be a report from the nominat ing committee, composed of Robert King, Robert Walker and Frederick H. Johnson. Committee reports and regular business will also be discussed. A film will be shown by Don Webb, program chairman, fol lowing the meeting. Mr and Mrs. Mert Griffin, who formerly lived on Timber Route, are the parents of a girl born Monday May 18. She is named Margie Lou, and weighs 10 pounds 7 ounces. She joins two sisters and one brother and was born on her younger sister’s birthday. The Griffins now live at Cor nelius. Grimsbo Registers Animals with Ass'n. Howard Grimsbo, Mist, led all Oregon shorthorn and polled shorthorn breeders in number of registrations during April, according to the American Shorthorn Ass’n, Omaha, Ne braska. Grimsbo recorded 18 head. Al Csech of 123 North St. came home Sunday with the first place trophy in Class D from the Riley Memorial Horse shoe tourney. The event was held at Hillsboro, with a large number of participants report ed enjoying the sport under summery skies. Csech has earned trophies in two of his four competitive outings. E dgar Hartzell and Gerald Russell also took part in the tourney, but failed to earn trophies for their efforts. Hats worn by U. S. Inspection of farm vehicles used to transport workers is now underway, the Oregon Mo tor Vehicles Division reported Tuesday. Inspections will con tinue throughout the spring and summer. During last year’s inspections, 78 percent of the vehicles in spected were found to be defec tive at time of inspection. The division urges farm vehicle own ers to check vehicles now and get them in condition to avoid delays when the heavy harvest season begins. Farm vehicles used to trans port workers should meet mini mum safety standards as des scribed in the Safety Code book let. The booklet is available free from field offices of the Motor Vehicles Division and the Ore gon State Police. NEW ARRIVALS Maxine Kyser and Durel Shrum exchanged marriage vows May 16 at the Methodist church at Kelso, Washington with Pastor Hallsway perform ing the rites. Attending the ceremony was the bride’s daughter Linda and sster-in-law Mrs. Larry Oblack. Afterwards they drove to the home of Mrs. Shrum’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Max Oblack of Mist, where relatives gathered to congratulate the couple.
