    First Son Arrives for
Marion Grant Family
NATAL - PITTSBURG - Mr. nnd
Mrs. Marion Grant are the parents
of a baby boy born March 2. He
weighed 6 pounds 14 ounces and
has been named Douglas Allen. He
joins two sisters Judy and Beverly.
Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.
Ike Dass of Mist route and Mr. and
Mrs. Emil Grant of Silverton. Mrs.
E. Grant is spending the week
here assisting with the new baby.
Mr. and Mrs. Dee Veere Hershey
were in Portland Friday on busi­
ness.
Larry Oblack went to Astoria
Sunday for his National Guard
training.
Mr. and Mrs. John McLeod and
sons David and Joe of Yamhill
spent a recent Sunday with her
folks, Mr. and Mrs. Orin Davis.
Mr. and Mrs. Max Oblack ac­
companied by Mrs. Robert Kyser

Basketball Playoffs
Attended by Several
Mrs. Ilda Place and Barbara of
Clatskanie accompanied the Fred
Larsons to the ball game in Port­
land Friday evening. Barbara also
attended the Saturday night games.
Mr. and Mrs. Francis Nordstrom
accompanied Mr. and Mrs. E. T.
Johnston and boys to the ball game
in Portland Saturday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Larson and
Susan spent the week end in Port­
land taking in the ball games and
visiting with her sister and family,
Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Clemens.
Darrell Baker has been employed
for some time at the Freeman ma­
chine shop in Portland.
Mr. and Mrs, Vick Berg went
clamming both Friday and Satur­
day evenings but didn’t have too
much luck.
Mr. and Mrs. Francis Larson
were Monday evening dinner
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Francis
Nordstrom.

MIST-Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kyser,
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Garlock and
Mr. and Mrs. Qren Weed, Vernon­
ia, were in Portland Friday even­
ing for dinner at the Hoyt hotel.
Business shoppers in Hillsboro
one day during the week were Mr.
and Mrs. George Mathews.
Mrs. Nettie Cox returned Wedne-
ddy afternoon after visiting rela­
tives. Lyle Wilson of Jefferson was
an overnight visitor that night and
Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Dale of
Astoria were short time visitors
Monday.

Cavanaugh were dinner guests of
the Martin Hansens Sunday after­
noon. It was in honor of Mrs. Cox’s
birthday.
Saturday evening visitors at the
Bud Hemeon home were Mr. and
Mrs. George Mathews.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kyser and
Mr. and Mrs. Claude Kyser were
in Longview Saturday evening for
dinner.
Two Birthdays
Feted at Inn
MIST - The month of March is
a busy time for the Norman Han­
sen family. Both Virginia and San­
dra celebrate their birthdays and
Norman and Virginia will celebrate
their wedding anniversary. Sunday
afternoon the Howard Thompsons
were hosts at the Village Inn in St.
Helens for a dinner in honor of Vir­
ginia and Sandra. Among those
who called at the Hansen home to
wish many more birthdays were
Mr. and Mrs. Bud Hemeon and
Mr. and Mrs. Shalmon Libel.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sparks and
Warren Kyser of Delena were din­
ner guests Sunday at the Wayne
Kyser home.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawton Waddell
spent the week-end in Portland at­
tending a Grange deputy school
session.
Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Dowling
of Vancouver, Wn. spent the week
end here.

The Columbia county court hav­
ing this day met in regular session
for the purpose of transacting
county business, with the follow­
ing members present; Judge Earl
S. Seawright and Commissioner
O. D. Clark, (Commissioner Louis
J. Wasser was absent due to ill­
ness) whereupon the following
business was transacted:
The minutes of the previous
meeting were approved as read.
The minutes of the special meet­
ing of February 25, were approved
as read.
Miscellaneous claims were ap­
proved.
Mrs. Ralph Endicott, represent­
ing the Goble Extension Unit, met
with the court concerning the im­
provement of a portion of Anliker
road; increased traffic has created
a need for oiling. The court took
it under advisement and will refer
this matter to the roadmaster.
Sanitarian Guy Beachler met
with the court concerning drainage
problems in various parts of the
county. Because of soil conditions,
no more building permits will be
issued for certain areas along
Sykes road.
A check in the amount of $3306.28
was received from the State De­
partment of Forestry for timber
sales.
An offer of $1000 was received
from Lloyd E. Wright for Tax Lot
24 located in Section 38, T8W R4W
of W.M. which is 39/100 the acre
in SWV4 of SW'4 as recorded in
deed book 123, page 55. Another
offer of $1600 was received from
Mrs. Mary Kivisho for the same
property. Both were taken under
advisement.
The February report of the park
commission was received.
Commissioner Clark moved and
Judge Seawright seconded that the
court sign a quitclaim deed as re­
quested by the State Highway
Commission, relinquishing mineral
rights retained by the county to
the commission on the Kenneth R.
Dibblee property purchased by
state for highway construction.
A letter of appreciation from
Boy Scout Troop 241 of Clatskanie
was received.
Minutes of the January 11 meet­
ing of the fair board were received.
Nothing further coming before
the court, the meeting was ad­
journed until March 9, 1966.

BIRKENFELD - Mrs. Edna
Johnson went to Portland Tuesday
to meet her sister - in . laws Helen
Hughes and Maxine Holden at the
airport on their arrival from Cali­
fornia. Edna took them to their
home in Forest Grove.
Mr. and Mrs. Sulo Sanders and
Leslie visited at the Chas. Ramsey
home Sunday.
Card Party Set
At Natal Grange
NATAL - PITTSBURG - Natal
Grange has planned a card party
for this Saturday, March 12 at 8:00
p.m. at the Grange Hall.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Tupper
and Sandra were dinner guests of
Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Grund at Yam­
hill Sunday. Later they drove to
Sheridan and visited Mr. and Mrs.
Harold Hyatt and four children.
Mrs. Hyatt is the former Cora Du-
senberry.
Mr. and Mrs. Orin Davis drove
to Lake Grove Sunday and visited
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Nelson. The two
couples enjoyed a Chinese dinner
at the Hi Hat restaurant.
Patti Mullins and baby Tara ac­
companied by Mrs. Albert Childs
visited Mr. and Mrs. Dee Veere
Hershey Sunday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Ike Dass visited
the John Roberts at Rainier Sun­
day. Later they went to Goble and
visited Mr. and Mrs. D. Neer.
Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Wolff left
Friday morning for Eugene to
spend the weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Lloyd Stuve. Saturday Mrs.
Stuve took her folks to the movie,
Sound of Music which they greatly
enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tur­
ner and children of Portland joined
the group for dinner Sunday. On
their way home Monday the Wolffs
stopped at Yamhill to call on Mr.
and Mrs. Irvin Grund.

Art Bellingham spent Saturday In
Portland with their daughter - in -
law, Diana. It was Douglas and
Diana’s first wedding anniversary
and also the 25th anniversary of
Art and Marie. They also took in
the ball games Friday and Satur­
day nights. Then, on Sunday after­
noon the Ron Trenholm, Ted Bell­
ingham and George Bellingham
families and Diana Bellingham all
gathered at the home of Art and
Marie Bellingham for visiting
and refreshments.
Mr. and Mrs. Arby Mills were
in Portland, Monday on business.
Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Baker
of Portland spent the week end
with his folks, the Darrell Bakers.
Francis Nordstrom returned
home recently from a two week
vacation trip. He went to California
to visit with relatives, then he and
his brother Tommy went to Mexi­
co. They took in some bull fights
and enjoyed sight seeing.
Mrs. Fred Stinchfield of Phoenix,
Ariz. called her daughter, Elna Ba­
ker Sunday evening. The Stinch-
fields are both well and it won’t be
too long until they will be heading
this way.
Mr. and Mrs. Francis Larson
spent Sunday with the Buddy Lar­
sons at Netarts to help Duane cel­
ebrate his eighth birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. George Mathews
were Sunday evening dinner guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Vick Berg.
Mrs. Art Bellingham and her
mother Elsa Richardson were in
Astoria Monday.
Jan Johnston spent Saturday
night with Vicki Ramsey.

Valley garden club will meet at
home of Mrs. Lucille McCrone Wed­
nesday, March 16 at 1:30 p.m.
The roll call will be My Most Priz­
ed Possession, and the program
subject will be gifts from the gar­
den by Mrs. May Mills and Mrs.
Ellen Lonnquist.
Allan Berg, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Russel Berg of Fortuna, and his
wife Mary and children, Janice,
Greg, Cathy and Jon have recent­
ly moved to Portland from Eureka.
Mr. Berg is employed at the new
Albertson store near 44th and San­
dy. They visited at the Shirley
Berg home Sunday afternoon, as
did Roger Berg of Hillsboro.
Activity night is in full swing
and meets every Thursday evening
at the church in Birkenfeld. Craft
classes start at 7 p.m. The group
adjourns at 8:30 p.m.
