    CHRISTMAS COMMENTARY
A CHRISTMAS THOUGHT
From (he Vernonia Ministerial
Association
“For unto you is born this day
in the city of David a Saviour, which
is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:11.
As night settled in on the country
side of Judea that first Christmas
night, little did the mass of people
gathered in Bethlehem to pay their
taxes, or the shepherds that kept
their flocks, realize the eternal ef
fect this night was to bring.
The Innkeeper had room only in
the stable for the Christ Child. The
crowd that passed by had time only
for their own problems that pressed
upon them. The business men of
Bethlehem were interested in the
profit that would come their way
because of the influx of people into
the city.
Strange that today, almost two
thousand years later, we look about
us and see almost the same picture.
Especially in our larger cities, we
find the same crowded conditions,
people rushing to and fro concerned
with their own problems and inter
ests, the merchant that is looking

forward to the profit the season
and crowd will supply.
We wonder if it is not easy for
us to forget the Christ Child and
have no room for him in our busy
schedule of the season? Perhaps
we have taken time to give unto him
a small insignificant place as the
Innkeeper gave him the use of his
stable. Was it because the only peo
ple that were quiet and still were
the shepherds that the Angels chose
them to proclaim the good news to?
Have we missed the meaning of
Christmas if we have gifts for ev
eryone else but have no gifts for
Him, the Son of God? God gave un
to us his only begotten son as a
gift that first Christmas. How we
need to stop in our rush and hurry,
and ask ourselves: “What have I
given Him in return for his wonder
ful gift?”

No other gift speaks so well of your thoughtfulness as a bright
little STARLITE» phone for someone in your family. It’s espe
cially convenient for the bedroom because it has a dial that
glows in the dark for easy dialing, and comes in a variety of
decorator colors.
We’ve made the STARLITE phone easy to give, too. Just call
our Business Office and we'll deliver one you can put under the
tree. We’ll install it right after the holidays.
Another nice thought—spread the spirit of Christmas and
i New Year's by phoning faraway friends and relatives. And
make those calls a day or two ahead of the Holiday, when folks
have more time for relaxed conversation.
