    THE NATAL Grange booth entry won a fifth place
ribbon with a mountain theme. The background fea­
tured a painted mountain range flanked by trees, while
elve figurines were depicted mining, fishing, picking
berries, gardening, etc. The booth also carried displays
cf general farm produce.
THE SOUTH Scappoose Grange booth entry which won
a second place award at the county fair last week had
a theme of “Cannon Fodder”. The booth featured a
miniature cannon in the center of the display with a
large American flag in the left background and smaller

A SPECIAL award went to the Warren Grange entry
“Great Expectations” which featured a background of
four golden sheafs of grain, the American flag and the
Bible in the center of the display. General farm
duce and flowers were also tastefully arranged.

MIST — Mrs. Wayne Kyser accom­
panied Mrs. Bettie Fuquay and Mrs.
Barbara Bergerson, Mrs. Bettie
Lamping and Mrs. Billie Tipton to
Deer Island Thursday evening to
set up the Timber Route. Vernonia
and Mist-Birkenfeld Extension dis­
play.
Roscmerri and Donna Sanders and
Judy Kyser attended the spaghetti
feed at the Bible church in Vernonia
Saturday evening and later swam at
the Perry’s Sports Camp. Melvin
Kyser joined them after the ball
game with Alston Comers.
Raymond Brower arrived Thurs­
day from California to visit his wife
and their daugher, Mrs. Sulo San­
ders. and family.
All baseball players will be given
a potluck dinner Friday evening at
Clatskanie.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Young and
Rcbin of Cocoa, Florida, arrived Sat­
urday to visit her grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. H. M. Reynolds. Mrs.
Young is the former Colleen Rey­
nolds, daughter of Roy Reynolds of
Arcadia, California. The Reynolds
and their guests were in Longview
Sunday visiting at the Armour Rey­
nolds home. The Youngs are visiting
in the Jewell area this week before
going back to visit longer here en­
route to California.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Karr of Van­
couver were at the Clarence Kyser
borne Saturday afternoon. Later in
the evening the Kyser family attend­
ed the Columbia county fair at Deer
Island.

MIST — Mr. and Mrs. Art Fmble-
ton, their daughter Irene and son
Joe, from Independence, Missouri
arrived at the Walter Mathews home
Sunday. Irene was Marian’s room­
mate last year at college. They left
Monday morning, taking Marian
back with them. She will again at­
tend the Graceland College at La­
moni, Iowa. After church Sunday
evening, the Sanders family met with
the Mathews and Embletons for a
farewell get together for Marian.
Saturday evening dinner guests at
the Wayne Kyser home were Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Sparks of Delena and
Mrs. Alice McCabe and Allan ot
Heppner.
Mrs. Charles Drake and Lanny re­
turned to their home in Nevada Fri­
day after visiting with her sister,
Mrs. Norman Hannan, and family.
Mrs. Howard Grimsbo, Raymond
and Kathy stayed at Deer Island
Wednesday through Sunday while the
youngsters participated in the fair.
Mrs. Bill Hatfield and Roger were
to arrive at the Grimsbo home Mon­
day for a weeks visit while Mr. Hat­
field is in Ohio attending a VFW
convention.
Visitors at the Claude Kyser home
over the week end were Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Karr, Vancouver; Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Kyser and family, Forest Grove
and Mr. and Mrs. Byron Hawkins
and daughter cf Cathlamet, Wash­
ington. The Hawkins family has just
moved to Washington where he Is
now working.

and Mart were in Portland Saturday

Scappoose to Copalis Beach, Wash­
ington to attend a family picnic spon­
sored by the Astoria Chapter cf the
APA. Mr. and Mrs. Art Bellingham
attended also.
Mr. and Mrs. Al Molnar of Pert-
land and Mr. and Mrs. Bud Norman
and family were visitors at the
David Crawford home Sunday.
The school bell will start to ring
Monday morning, August 31, for the

A. E. Jones of Castle Rock, Wash­
ington visited at the Shalmcn Libel
home Tuesday. Mrs. Lawton Waddell

In Washington
TIMBER ROUTE — Those enjoy­
ing a day of boating, water skiing,
and a picnic at Yale dam in Washing­
ton Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Claud
Gibson Jr. and four children, Mr.
and Mrs. Darrell McKee and three
children, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Gwin
and four children, Mr. and Mrs. Max
Buckner and two children, Mr. and
Mrs. Bill Ostrander and two chil­
dren and they were joined by Mr.
and Mrs. Dick McNair and five chil­
dren from Amboy, Washington.
Mr .and Mrs. Frank Birt and Mrs.
Wlegandt drove to Vancouver, Wash­
ington Sunday to visit Mrs. Birt's
mother, Mrs. Victoria Rowe.
Mrs. Sine Collins from Hillsboro
called on Mrs. Mae Wienecke
Wednesday evening.
Mr, and Mrs. Gene Drips from
Hillsboro visited Mr. and Mrs. Archie
Christensen Wednesday evening.
Mrs. Myrtle Cox called on Mrs. Al
Rosser Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Bud Gibson and Mrs. Dick
Gwin were in Forest Grove Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Landon and
family from Portland, Debbie Mate-
son of Canby, and Mrs. Eva Newton
from Portland visited Mr. and Mrs.
Wilbur Thacker Sunday afternoon.
Saturday guests of Mr. and Mrs
Bud Gibson were his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Claud Gibson Sr., and in
the evening Mr and Mrs. Jack Odam
