at Pacific University during their
summer sessions. Her course will
last for six weeks. She teaches
French at Vernonia high school.
Mrs. Gladys Priebe of The
Dalles who spent the latter part
of last week at Seaside attending
the convention of the American
Legion auxiliary, took advantage
of the nearness to Birkenfeld and
Vernonia to visit relatives also.
She spent one night with her cou­
sin, Mrs. Victor Berg, at Birken­
feld and another with her aunt,
Mrs. Laura Carmichael on Stoney
Point road.
Mr. and Mrs. A1 Lonien and
three children from Eugene spent
last week end here with her moth­
er, Mrs. Ray Chesebro. Enrout,
they stopped in Portland to see
her father, Ray Chesebro, at the
Veterans hospital where he was
taken last Thursday due to a heart
condition. The Loniens formerly
lived here and their little girl,
born prematurely before they
moved to Eugene is now three
months old, weighs 11 pounds and
is the picture of health, according
to Mrs. Chesebo.
Mrs. Robert Wyckoff entered
Tuaity hospital Monday for ma-
jor surgery on Tuesday of this
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Pat Horsley and
Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Horsley,
previous Vernonia residents who
now live in Twin Falls,' Idaho,
were guests last Tuesday and
Wednesday at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Los Horsley on Timber
route. The three men are brothers.
Mrs. Walter Kent sends news
that she has now moved to her
own apartment in Newberg and
friends who chance that way will
find her at 507 N. Meridian St. It
is near the college so easy to find.
Albert Childs received word
this week of the death of his
brother-in-law, Fred Hargreaves
of Portland who for the past two
years had been in Roseburg.
Mrs. Don Tiffney entered Prov­
idence hospital in Portland Wed­
nesday for surgery on her spine
today, Thursday.

returned home last week end from
Los Angeles where they had gone
to attend the graduation of their
son Ron from Chouinard Art In­
stitute June 17. Ron received his
bachelor of fine arts degree in
advertising design and was gradu­
ated with honors for high grade
point average during his four
years at the institute. Next Mon­
day, he starts work in the adver­
tising department of the Walt
Disney Enterprises. The Ander-
eggs enjoyed seeing a number of
points of interest during the ten
days they were gone, including
Olvera street, the Mexican street
in Los Angeles; Marineland, the
Wayfarer’s chapel near Portuguese
Rend, the observatory, and en­
route home they went to Carson
City and Reno, Nevada and Cra­
ter Lake. They stopped two nights
in Springfield with their daughter
and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell
Borders and one night at Junction
City with the C. L. Johnsons.
Recent guests at the home of
Dr. and Mrs. T. M. Hobart were
Dr. and Mrs. B. B. Jagger from
Midland, Texas who stopped here
enroute to Seattle to attend the
fair. The Hobarts were in Seattle
recently, also, but they attended
the annual Osteopathic convention
rather than the fair. They hope to
attend the fair later on.
Jim Frank, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Elgus Frank, received his dis­
charge from the air force June
22 and he and Mrs. Frank and
their daughter, Lori and Ellen are
now visiting here with his folks.
Also here Sunday were another
son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Frank and family from Bay City
and friends, Mr. and Mrs. Albin
Colson and Rev. and Mrs. Richard
Colson, all from Hillsboro.
Miss Vicki Nance arrived here
last week end to visit her grand­
parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Nance.
She had spent a few days at Bend
with her other grandparents en­
route here from Santa Rosa, Cal­
ifornia. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
W. R. Nance and sister Sheryl are
expected here this week end. Al­
so visiting here this week is Miss
Dana Flynn of Portland, grand­
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merle
Ring.
Mrs. Grant Thayer and Mrs.
Dave Marshall were guests of Mr.
and Mrs. George Johnson for din­
ner in Portland Sunday after
which they visited Mrs. Charles
Sundland at Good Samaritan hos­
pital. They were pleased to find
her making good progress toward
recovery. Part of her cast has
been removed and she hopes to
be up in a wheel chair before too
long.
Recent guests at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Bolmeier
were her uncle and aunt. Mr. and
Mrs. M R. Harris from Minneap­
olis, Minnesota.
Mrs. Ben Brickel is slowly re­
cuperating at home from her se­
cond operation for the removal
of cataracts. Recovery has baen
slowed by some complications but
her progress now is satisfactory.
Prior to coming home from Port­
land she stayed a few days with

small son Brent spent last Sunday
here with her parents, Mr. and
