Beasley Brothers Spend Leaves with Parents Here I TIMBER ROUTE — Jim Beas ley, who is in the army, spent some time at home with his par ents and left July 5 to go to Kor ea. His brother Walter of the ma rines is home now. He has been stationed in Guam but now will be at Camp Pendleton where he goes Thursday. Mrs. George Smith and sons spent Sunday in Clatskanie with hef sisters, Mrs. Les Galloway and family. Mrs. Nell Thacker who had spent the week end at Clatskanie returned home with her daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Snyder and Bert, Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Hard ers and family of Aberdeen, Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Ransom of Portland and Mrs. Donovan Reynolds and children spent the Fourth with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Harders. A baby girl arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Reynolds July 5. Weight eight pounds and four ounces. She joins a brother and sister. Travel Shows Steady Gain Street and highway travel in Oregon so far this year is show ing a steady increase with more than 3 billion miles traveled dur ing the first five months of the year, the Department of Motor Vehicles has reported. This exceeds travel last year for the same period by better than 191 million miles and the com parable 1959 period by more than 257 million miles. At the same time, the depart ment said the state’s mileage death rate based on the number of persons killed in each 100 mil lion miles traveled, is up from last year’ s 4.6 to 5.4 for the Jan uary through May period. For five months at least, the death rate is lower than for 1959 when a record traffic toll was set, but all that may be changed, the department said, when the 6- month death rate is computed. June this year saw an all-time high death tell of 55 recorded for that month. Unless mileage saw a correspondingly sharp increase, it will in all liklihood shove the death rate above 1959, too. The department computes mile age based on reports of gasoline gallonage sold each month. There were 1,140 accidental deaths in Oregon in 1960. 4-H Foresters Schedule Camp The District 4-H Forestry camp will be held at Camp Wilkerson on July 17, 18 and 19. Four-H club members from nine counties in Northwestern Oregon will be taking part in this three day camp. Club members will arrive at 11 a.m. Monday, July 17. Follow ing an organization meeting and lunch, the camp will be officially underway. Classes will start at 1 p.m. on Monday and will run until noon Wednesday. Instructors from Ore gon State University, commercial firms and volunteer leaders will teach the group various phases of forestry, wild life and outdoor living. An attendance of approx imately 125 is expected.
