TOPICS OF THE TOWN Mr. and Mrs. Jed Cousins re turned home last week end from Ashland where they had spent all of last week while Mrs. Cousins attended the Institute of Renais sance study conducted in conjunc tion with the Oregon Shakespear ian festival by Dr. Marjorie Bai ley of Stanford University. She also attended two of the Shake spearian plays. Guest at the home of Mrs. Laura Carmichael this week is Mrs. Clark Fenton of Silver Lake, Washington. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hawkins and family vacationed last week with a trip down the coast, then crossed over to Eugene to spend a couple of days with her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Mer vin Simpson. While there, Mr. Hawkins also called on former Riverview residents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marston. Harold Ashley who was in Ver nonia recently while home on leave, is now stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. For friends who wish to write him, the following address may be used: Pvt. EI Harold J. Guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hawkins were two of her uncles and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kunciter of St. Helens and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Serafin, their daughter Angie from Trenholm and the latter’s fiance, Gene Fish from Porltand. The Serafins also visited the John and Frank Serafin families. Edward and Larry Garner join ed Dr. M. D. Cole and Al Boles of Longview in Portland Sunday to attend the baseball double header, both of whoch the Beav ers won. Also attending with them was Ray Hahmeyer of Port land. Mr. and Mrs. James Harris and family attended a picnic Sunday at the DeMolay park near Tilla mook which was the 20th anni versary reunion for her Tilla mook high school class. WALT DISNEY'S The Shaggy Dog Fred MacMurray Jean Hagen last week at Tillamook with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sperber, returned home with their parents Sunday even ing and brought with them their cousin, David Stout, to visit here for a while. Mrs. Lona Weidman received news last week that a former re sident, Darrell Errant, had died from injuries received in an auto mobile accident near Albuquer que, New Mexico July 10 in which his wife had been killed instantly. One of their three sons is still being treated for injuries and the other two escaped with minor injuries. The children are with his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Errant, in Portland. Carla and Rusty Davis of Til lamook spent last week end here with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Davis. Mr. and Mis. Harold Davis and sons Billy and Bobby of Clatskanie were here Saturday evening also for a birth day dinner for Mrs. Harold Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Dick May were here from Eugene last week end to visit her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Tipton and other relatives. Clarence Nance drove to Ta coma Friday to bring Mrs. Nance’s mother, Mrs. E. E. Lehmann, and her brother, R. A Hatley from American Lake veterans hospital here for a weeks visit. Neighbors in Lone Pine Acres just south of Vernonia, gathered at the home of Charles Van Ai stine Saturday evening to honor him on his 83rd birthday. Birth day cake and ice cream were serv ed and he received gifts. Those who participated were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Nightwine and fa- milk, Mr. and Mrs .Clyde May, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Warner and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Tipton. Cecil Wolf arrived Friday from Odessa, Texas to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wolf. Also home during the week end were the Wolf’s daughter, Mrs. Roy Dailey from Astoria and their sons, Mr. and Mrs. John Wolf and Tom Jr. from Springfield. Mr. Wolf, who has not been well is up part of the time, but spends quite a bit of time in bed. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Schaum burg were here from Portland Saturday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schaumburg. Mrs. Dan Cason fell Monday noon on the sidewalk near Mil ler's store and broke her left arm. She also received bruises in the fall. Miss Harriet Heath who has spent most of the summer recup erating from virus pneumonia, is now on her feet and feeling good again. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Anderson of Chicago called on Mrs. W. T.
