THURSDAY. MAY 21. 1959 ( 3 . Pythian Sisters Name Candidate At the meeting of Vernonia Temple, Pythian Sisters held last Wednesday evening at the IOOF hall, Alice Lindsay 1 Mrs. Robert S. Lindsay of Pittsburg) who is a member of the temple consent id to be their candidate for cen- tennial queen for the Friendship Jamboree. Her name, together with sketch concerning her is being filed with the queen se- lection committee. Plans were made for the mem bers to sell tickets for the gro cery basket on the two Saturdays following the meeting. The draw ing will be held at the next meet- -ng. May 27. The basket is now on display at Strong’s Electric and members who still have items to contribute should leave them there. Irma Chance was in charge of the Mothers Day program and presented lovely corsages of spring flowers to all mothers pre sent. The corsages were made by Grayce Bundy. A program of songs and readings was presented. A letter was read from Pearl Wilkerson, temple mother, thank ing them for the Mothers Day gift sent to her. Reports on district convention were given by those who attend ed. Vernonia Temple had been complimented on their exemplify cation of the draping of the char ter which was carried out by the temple officers: MEC Launee Cousins, Excellent Senior Lucille Hickman, Excellent Junior Otilia Heckenliable and Mathilde Ber- gerson who filled in as manager and Isabel Culbertson who filled in as past chief for two of the regular officers who were unable to attend. The eulogy was given by Cora Lange, secretary, and Murel Knight and Irma Chance sang. Following Wednesday’s meet ing, delicious cakes were served with fruit jello and coffee by Isa bel Culbertson and Catherine Lentz. Gladys Strong, third member of the committee, was detained by business but her cake and jello was enjoyed. In addition to the basket draw ing at the next meeting. May 27, plans for future activities will be made. September Wedding Set For Lloyd Quinn Daughter Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Quinn an nounce the engagement of his daughter, Elaine, to Robert Bar- stad, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Barstad of Springfield. The wed- ding will take place in Septem ber. He is attending Oregon State college and majoring in forestry engineering and she is a student at Oregon College of Education at Monmouth. WELLER | Weller-Millis Marriage Vows Äre Exchanged At Christian Church In an impressive candlelight ceremony at 2:00 o’clock last Sat urday afternoon at the First Christian Church, Miss Mary El- ien Millis, daughter of Mrs. Phil lip J. Millis, became the bride of James K Weller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Weller, all of Vernonia. The double ring ceremony was read by Rev. Robert Sargent, pas tor of the church in the pre sence of a large audience of rela tives and friends. The church was beautifully de corated with baskets of pink car nations and white dutch iris which were arranged by Mrs. Carl Fowler of Eugene, aunt of the bride. The bride, given in marriage by her brother. Max Millis of Port land. wore a ballerina length dress of white nylon lace over net. Her finger tip veil was held by a bandeau of pearls and she carried an arm bouquet of pink rosebuds. Matron of honor was Mrs. A F. Sword of Bend, sister of the bride, and other attendants were Mrs. Larry Holsy and Miss Ja nice Pearson of Roseburg. All three wore gowns of pink taffeta with overskirt of net and nylon tulle and carried arm bouquets of pink and white carnations. Eugene Weller, brother of the groom, was best man and ushers were Don Wantland, cousin of the groom and Don Holsey. The wedding marches and other music was provided by Mrs. Frank Serafin, organist and Miss Kathy Weller, sister of the groom sang "Whither Thou Goest” and "The Wedding Prayer." The mothers of the bride and groom were attired in navy blue dresses with white accessories and wore orchid corsages. Following the ceremony, a re ception was held in the church NOTICE OF BUDGET MEETING NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the budget committee of the City of Vernonia. Columbia County, Oregon, a municipal corporation has filed in the office of the levying board, to wit: the City Council of said city, its detailed estimates of the total amount of receipts, and also the total amount of money pro posed to be raised by taxation and expended by said municipal corporation for all purposes for the period from July 1, 1959 to June 30, 1960, which estimates are as follows: parlors with the ladies of the i church in charge. The beautiful three-tiered cake, decorated with pink roses and top ped with wedding bells and bride and groom ornament, was cut and served by Mrs. Gerald Millis of ‘ Monroe, sister-in-law of the I bride. Mrs. Donald Wantland I poured coffee and Miss Joyce Sui- i livan presided at the punch bowl. Mrs. Robert Bates was in charge of the guest book and Mrs. Eugene Weller, sister-in-law of the groom, and Mrs. Floyd Shulke took care of the gift table. Out of town guests included the bride’s sister and husband. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Sword and baby son, Bend; her aunts and uncles, Mr. and Mrs O. K. Bell, Portland, Mrs. Carl Fowler and Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Bell. Eugene; her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Millis and family, Monroe; friends of the bride’s family, Mr and Mrs. Otto Cant well and Barney Cantwell, Can non Beach; Mrs. Robrt Sword, Bend; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Knoed- ler, Springfield; Mr and Mrs. Earnest Graham and Mr. and Mrs Frank Crabtree, Portland; and Mrs. Max Smith, Hillsboro; an aunt and uncle of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. Ward Blakeley, Castle Rock. Washington; great- aunts and uncles of the groom, Mr. and Mrs Frank Hopkins and Mr. and Mrs. Art Williams. Port land and friends, Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Hibbs and sons, and. From the reception, Mr. and Mrs. Weller left for a week end honeymoon at the beach from which they returned Monday They will make their home in Vernonia where he is . mployed by the Crown Zellerbach cor poration. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Weller was employed at the Sawyer plant at Beaverton. Schluckebier. She was given in marriage by her father and wore with her bouffant wedding gown a chapel length veil held by a crown of seed pearls and rhinestones. She carried a white orchid surrounded by pink rosebuds on her white Rainbow Girl Bible. Miss June Jones of Corvallis was maid of honor and Miss Gretchen Bolmeier, Salem, brides maid. They wore street-length dresses of pastel blue with royal blue accessories and carried cas cade bouquets of pink carnations.
