THE EAGLE, VERNONIA. ORE. Pioneer Meeting Well Attended BIRKENFELD — The pion-er meeting held»Sunday was well at- tended and everyone had an en joyable time. This is a good time and place to meet old friends and neighbors. Mrs. Fred Larson and Mrs. Del- mar Jepson were Astoria callers on Wednesday. While there they visited with Mrs. Ted Belling- ham. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Garlock and family spent Sunday at Westport with his folks, the Willard Gar- locks. Mr and Mrs. Roy Stuve and Kar en, Mrs. Zella Bellingham and Mr. Troy Keen attended the fun eral of Mrs. Elsie Hutchinson at Hillsboro Saturday. Mr. Stuve and Mr Keen acted as pallbear ers. The Harshmans and Mrs. Bellingham visited with the Gar Raymonds at Forest Grove. They also saw Mrs. Stapleton, a former resident here. Mr. Stapleton passed away sometime ago. Several from here attended the musical at Mist Saturday even ing which was put on by the young peoples club. It was all very nice. Mrs. Ralph Kleger of Clatskanie talked on the essen tials of music. Mrs. Trent Garner went to Seaside Monday to attend the funeral of James Burke. He was a former resident of Ver nonia. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fayres and daughter Lois of Portland w to week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Udey. Mrs. Don Jensen and Mrs. Ce cil Elliott and granddaughter of Warrenton spent Monday ’with Mrs. Art Bellingham. Mrs. Le-> Enneberg and baby have returned home. Mrs. Carl Enneberg has been staying with her for a few days. The boys from here who play ball with the American Legion team of Vernonia ar? Sammy and Butch Baker, Edgar Berg and Wayne Larson. The team plays in a league and they played Tillamook at Tillamook on Sun day. They lost by a score of 6 to 5. Past Chiefs Club Plans Picnic for July Meeting Eight members of the Past Chiefs club were present for the meeting held at the home of Mrs. Albert Blount June 3. Mrs. W R Wolff, president, presided over the meeting and heard a good report on the amount realized from the afghan made by the club. The afghan was awarded to Mrs. Oren Weed at the Pyth ian Sister district convention held here May 25. The pillow cases went to Mrs. Carl Brauner and the crocheted bathroom set was drawn by an out of town guest whose name was not learned. Plans were made by the club for a picnic at which husbands and family members would be guests on July 8. The picnic will be held at the new community kitchen in the city park at 6:30 p.m. The evening concluded with de licious refreshments served by the hostess. The hostess prize was drawn by Mrs. Grayce Bundy. Ed Salotnonson returned home Tuesday from St. Vincents hos pital where he had spent a week for treatment and observation. MR. AND MRS. At the reception in the social rooms which followed the cere mony, the three tiered wedding cake decorated with red roses was cut and serv'd by Mrs. F. M. Knoll and Mrs. Eugene Hibbs of Portland. Mrs. Mary Yocom. Cloverdale, served punch and Mrs. Bernard Dowling poured cof fee. Miss Helen Obermover was in charge of the guest book. After the reception, Mr and Mrs. Barnell left for a weeks honeymoon trip to Canada and Vancouver Island For traveling, the bride wore a pink print dress with pink duster and white ac cessories, and her white orchid corsage. Mrs. Barnell taught home economics this past term at Nestucca high school and the previous year taught at Vernonia high school.
