Highway tra vel was difficult and school bus ses on Keasey and Pebble Creek routes were unable to make runs. Eighteen inches of snow fell during the week in addition to 15 inches that had fallen previously. A hot lunch program had a I successful start this week at the Mist grade school according .to Mrs. Alden Ashley, chairman of the P.T.A. project. Work of cook ing and serving is done by mem bers who volunteer such help. The Columbia Encampment No. 89 installed Loren Atkins as Chief Patriarch, Wm. D. January 11, 1945 Ed Ruediger assumed the Scap poose and Keasey mail routes which had been carried the past several years by Charles Alsdorf who is now moving to eastern Oregon for his health. The Vernonia golf course was sold this week by Lum Brown to Mr. and Mrs. Rex Hess of Port land. i Bob Thompson took over the operation of the school bus on the Stoney Point route this week. It wis formerly driven by Herb I Condit who sold out to Thomp son because of ill health. FIFTEEN YEARS AGO From The Eagle. January 12. 1940 Chickenpox, whooping cough, and flu caused extensive absences in both grade and high schools this week.
