Dec. 25. 1947 Through appointment by the governor, Oscar G. Weed was named to fill the post of justice of the peace for this area and Frank Slemmons was named con. stable. An entirely new cleaning plant has been installed and is now in operation at the Vernonia Clean ers, Bob Cline, owner, said Mon day. New officers to head the Ma sonic lodge for 1948 were named at an election earlier this month and installed December 18. They are: John Kirk, W.M.; Walter Linn, S.W.; Harry Sandon, J.W.; Emil Messing, treasurer; Ray Mills, secretary; Bill Brimmer, S.D.; L. W. Skuzie, J.D.; Pete Brunsman, Chaplain; George Johnson, Marshal; Ray Justice, S.S.; Sam Hearing, Jr., J.S.; and Herman Dickson, Tyler. Gillham is the first local person awarded a sterling silver pin as an award for having completed 500 hours on the local aircraft warning service observa tion post. One-hundred hour awards were presented to H. E. Stevenson, Cleo Walrath, Harold Carrick, Ira E. Baucom and Geo. Hobson. Miss Patricia Moran, freshman at Marylhurst college, Portland, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Moran of Pittsburg, was nam ed this week to the honor roll for her first term at the school. He has enlisted in naval construction for the dura tion. FIFTEEN YEARS AGO From The Eagle. Dec. 23, 1939 The announcement was made this week of the addition of two large tanks to the Shell Oil dis tributing plant, under the man agement of William Briot. A total of $150.91 was spent for supplies to make up sacks of candy for distribution at the an. nusl community Christmas pro gram at the grade school this Friday night. The committee in charge of making up the sacks was composed of: Ed Condit, Lee Hall, Oscar Weed, Charles VanAlstine, Jack Tomlin, George Baker and Rev. H. R. Scheuer- man. Oliver Graves, owner of the Pebble Creek dairy, announced plans to build cold storage locker s. ace capable of handling about 303 customers.
