SKY WONDERS “Silently one by one, in the infinite meadows of heaven, blossomed the lovely stars, the for-get-me-nots of the angels.” ( “At the close of day as we l<xik I up into the star-sowen fields of I immensity, we come to appreci- I ate the Creator's invitation to study the stars when He said: “Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things.” It was David, the psalmist, who told us why the Infinite One would have us lift up our eyes and search for the learning to be found amidst the glories and sublimities of the heavenly hosts, for it was he who said: "The hea. vens declare the glory of God; and th-1 firmament showeth His handiwork. Day unto day ut- tereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the word. In them hath He set a tabernacle for the sun.” It would seem that the Creator has chosen to reveal mmself to the human family f# rough two great books. One of these is the Inspired Record. We call it, the Bible. Th“ other is a bo>k o'* nature. We shall speak of* it as ‘“he book of the starry heavens.' The Bible is available todav in the - language *af m ny n tions whereas th- book i ' t e,’tarry heavens is writte in th? lu»ji- . age of the st rry hea . nt The Bible h..s sT ’.: “U ere is no speech nor l:.ng their voice is not* heard, fort-n tely • with millions people, the Bible is seldom it #ever opened and re^id, but the book of the starrv !.eavens is always oDen for all mankind. When we think of the eternity of the past we «see at once that the Bible is relatively a new bock, a late devela-tiori from God. But the book of the starry hea- vens is time’s most ancient vol- urr.e. How wonderful that this volume, book, the most ancient of all heirlooms, shows no marks of the passing years. Let us read yonder where the sun, u ith face of insufferable splendor, goes wheeling throurb the busy day. Then again let us read where the soft and silvery moon, with fleets of stars goes sailing through the silent nigh’ And as there we ponder, gazing into that vast, silent dome, with its interv, eaving of the ma jestic and the beautiful, we ap preciate more fully the emotions that stirred in the soul of David when he exclaimed: "The hea vens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth His handiwork.” The above is the first f a series designed to strengthen our faith in the God who has created and upholds the heavens and the earth. Th' se articles on Sky Wonders are from the pen of Phillip L. Knox, Astronomer-Evangelist, they are designed to strengthen our belief in God and His Word —the Bible.
