Folk Music Studied At PEO Meet June 12 Engagement of Couple Announced Mrs. Dick Fletcher was hostess for the June 12 meeting of the PEO Sisterhood. After the business meeting, Mrs. Sam Hearing, Jr., gave as her program, a very interesting talk on the subject “Origin and Growth of Folk Music.” In de fining the different types of folk music she pointed out that folk ballad is the only form of med ieval vernacular poetry which has continually survived. It is a “Song that tells a Story,” in simple verse to a simple tune. It is the product of no one time or person. It’s author is seldom known and it’s medium is word of mouth rather than print. It has no original text, being freshly created by each succesive singer as he makes his own arrangement. When fixed in print it differs from the local versions, as sung, because of it’s on all kinds of footwear CHILDREN’S SHOES a specialty WALT'S SHOE SHOP W. E. Rodgers.
