THE OLD MAN ON THE HILL SAY?— Ma Takes A Vacation Dear Mrs. Turner: I was humming “My Wife's Gone to the Country” when I found your card in the mailbox, for that is what has happened. She has gone to stay a couple of weeks with Mrs. Muscott down on the Nestucca river, so there are two lonely, disconsolate widowers on Fenwick Street here in Portland. I thought I would write and relieve your mind of any worry you might have and tell you For Sales and Service For Electrolux Cleaner and Air Purifier Call ANDREW A. KARP St. Helens Hotel St. Helens. Oregon Also MacDonald Hotel Vernonia, Oregon i i * I t t Í I I I ( ! t : i i i i i t < i i i i that John is getting along as well as could be expected, al though I know your absence has its effect on him and he misses you as much as I do Ma. In fact, I was afraid he was worry ing too much so, just to get his mind off his trouble and cheer him up, I gave him a little sur prise party. It was a very quiet afiair^just three or four blonds, and 1 brought along a small quantity of varied refreshments and it broke up quite early, no „net staying later than four-thirty a.m. it anyone should tell you that ihe neighbors all objected to the noise, it is a base canard. There was only on.’ or two that said anything and then not till it was almost time for the party to break up. There was one of the blonds, however, who kept forgetting that John was a married man, out I reminded her of the fact tow and then so everything was all right. John was trying to leach them the national Swedish dances, but without much suc cess. Those Swede folk dances are rather vigorous affairs and there wasn’t room enough, too much furniture, but I don’t think there was much damage done that cannot be repaired. Then c ne of the blonds wanted io dance on Ihe garage roof-a-la September morn. We got a step adder and she climbed up ,but she could not hear the radio music that far. I tried to play the jews harp for her but my false teeth kept falling out so that wouldn’t work either. John was so disappointed that she said she would dance for him on the dining room table. We pulled off .that nice, hand-cro cheted table cloth you had on the table and she climbed up and started her dance but it did not turn out very well. At the first jump she bumped her head against the ceiling «nd fell down off the table. She got quite a bump on her head and also one where she hit the table. We had a quite a time soothing her, but after two or three Tom- Collins she said she was all right again. John gave her a piece of the plaster she knocked off as a memento, or something. Anyhow it was a nice party and I think it did Mr. Turner some good. At least it kept him from worrying over your absence too much and I know you will be very grateful to us for taking such good care of him while you are gone. Oh yes, during the excitement following the table dance episode, someone got tangled up in your table spread and tore a couple of holes in it but I think it can be sewed together without much trouble and also, one of the blonds got a runner in her stock ing, but John loaned her one of your new pairs. She promised to return them the next time she comes out. so that is all right. (To be continued. John Gives a Return Party.) Delegates Back From Convention RIVERVIEW — Mrs. Rex Nor mand and son.
