Legion, Auxiliary
To Celebrate Monday
Legion Selects
Two New Officers
The American Legion and its
Auxiliary will celebrate Armistice
day with a .pot-luck dinner Mon­
day, November 11 at 6:30 p.m.
at their hall.
Hot rolls, butter, sugar, cream
and coffee will be furnished by
the Auxiliary. All service and
ex-service men and their families
are cordially invited to partici­
pate.
Gifts for the families of hos­
pitalized veterans may be brought
to the hall at that time. The re­
habilitation chairman and the
child welfare chairman will mail
all gifts to the gift shop at the
hospital oi to the child welfare
center to be given to the families
of veterans in their homes.
At a special election held Mon­
day evening, the American Legion
selected two new officers to fill
vacancies which have arisen since
the last regular election.
Named as the new commander
is Ray Justice who fills the va­
cancy arising from the resigna­
tion of Frank Slemmons. Bert
Brunsman was chosen for the of­
fice of vice commander.

celebrated at the home of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Hog­
berg Saturday with a turkey din­
ner, refreshments and aancing
during the evening.
Among the guests were Mr.
and Mrs. Glen Gibson and chil­
dren, Mr. and Mrs. Ed York and
son, Ole Olson, Mrs. Gladys Haas,
Charles Hallem all of Vernonia,
Miss Donna Bernier and Tommy
Burke of Portland and Clarence
Johnson of Clatskanie.

A Halloween party at the Chris­
tian church last Tuesday eve­
ning was attended by 43 young
people. The evening was spent
playing games, a scavenger hunt,
stunt3 and refreshments.

Mrs. Burnside Hostess
For Deborah Circle
Mrs. John Burnside was hostess
for the Deborah circle at that
group’s November meeting Tues­
day afternoon. Mrs. Walter Olin­
ger presided in the adsence of
Mrs. A. J. Hughes. The group
will meet again on the afternoon
cf the first Tuesday in De­
cember.

Mrs. Lewis Blair of Libby,
Montana, wishes to announce the
marriage of her daughter, Betty
Coleman, to Charles L. Rieser of
Wilark. The wedding took place
in Troy, Montana, on October 20
with Justice of the Peace J. B.
Farris officiating. The couple
was attended by friends of the
bride.
Following the wedding the cou­
ple was honored by a wedding
dinner at the home of the bride’s
sister, Mrs. Elaine Wynne. Sev­
eral affairs were given for them
in Libby before they returned to
Orgon to make their home in
Vernonia.

unit of home demonstration met a
few days ago with Mrs. May Mel­
linger, learning to make cor­
sages. Present were Mary Christ­
ensen, Alice Buckley, Florence
Kirkbride, Iva Gillham, Edith Mc­
Farlan, Hilda Keasey, Lillian
Schooley, Blanche DeWitt and one
guest, Clara Lindsley, of Verno­
nia.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Bittner and
Lloyd Osborn were in Portland
Monday.
Bert Hawes of Portland was
out Sunday looking hi3 place over.
He owns the place formerly be­
longing to Warren Lindsley.

Osborn attended funeral services
held in Salem for Mrs. Mary
Osborn, grandmother of Lloyd Os­
born.
Mr. and Mrs. John Hall visited
with the Herb Counts family
Sunday.
Ron McDonald spent Sunday
evening at the Herb Counts home.
Mrs. Vivian Counts and daugh­
ter, Betty, arid father James
Bonnjck went to Scappoose for
the oPmona grange meeting a few
days ago.
Mrs. Vivian Counts was in
Hillsboro Wednesday.
Mrs. Rose Pope and Mrs. Norma ,
Bittner called on the Herb Counts
family last week.
Mrs. Herb Counts gave a birth­
day party for her husband, Herb
Counts. The guests were: Mr.
and Mrs. Jack eKith, Mr. and
Mrs. Harry iKeth and daughter,
Lennie, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Extine,
Mr. and Mrs. lex Lankdon and
som, Donnie and Butch, Gene
Cleveland and eBtty Counts. Re­
freshments were served later in
the evening.
