RIVERVIEW—A large new hay
bam is under construction on the
Ralph McKee farm on Tenth St.;
the Calister residence is carrying
a new shingle roof; the Wirtz
garage has a new composition
roof and by way of improvement
W. J. Lindsley has had an electric
pump and tank installed‘near the
greenhouse on his acreage on
First street. Mr. C. L. Anderson
did the installing and Mr. Lindsley
is constructing a cover for both.
Mrs. Alice Bolt’inghouse who is
making her home with her son,
J. M. Peachey, left Friday of last
week for a three week’s visit with
her daughter, Mrs. John Casey at
Tacoma, Washington.
Recent visitors at the George
,Carl home were her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. P. J. Kennedy and their
granddaughter,
Barbara
Allen
Hall, of Seattle. The trio spent a
week at the Carl home. Mrs. Ken­
nedy and her granddaughter had
just returned from a visit to Van­
couver, B. C., and Port Angeles,
Washington.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Beacom
were guests Sunday morning at a
farewell breakfast given in »heir
honor at the J. A. Wirtz home.
Another guest was Father John
Goodrich, principal of and religious
instructor at St. Mary’s Boys’
Home at Huber. Father Goodrich
states that there are 130 boys
enrolled at the home at this time.
The Beacoms left Monday for
their new home in Newberg.
Mrs. C. T. Moore came from Se­
attle Friday for a visit at the
home of her son, Walter Moore.

who is quite ill at present; Mrs.
Monty Dewey suffering with flu;
and Joanne Sozoff who was out
of school Monday due to a bad
cold.

The City of Roses was visited
by an unusually large number of
our people during the past week.
They are Mrs. Olof Jacobsoh,
Thursday, who also transacted
business in Vancouver, Washing­
ton; Mrs. Johnson Sozoff, Jimmie
and Joanne, and Mrs. Walter King
and Mrs. C. N. Van De Bogart
who chose Friday the 13th for
their visit; L. L. Wells and Mr.
(and Mrs. Herman Wood were
there on Saturday; and Mrs.
Merle Cline, Mary Ann Johns and
Gordon Cline went over Thursday.
John Sozoff and his son, Jim­
mie, were Salem goers Sunday
and Jimmie, a 7th grader re­
mained in the capital city to at­
tend school.

twelve months, is based on the
monthly consumers' sludy of In­
vestors Syndicate of Minneapolis.
The American public In June had
a ’Teal income" of 89 cents, or 11
cents on the dollar less than In
June. 1945. This "real Income" is
not a subtraction of cash income
and expenditures hut an average
relative of these figures designed
to show how living costs affect ad­
justed income dollars.
Cash income of the American
public in June was 93 cents for
every $1 a year earlier. The follow­
ing changes per dollar were: wages
off 14 cents, salaries off 16 cents
on the $1 00; Investment income at
61.10 was up ten cents and other
Income at $1 04 was up four cents.
Rents In June were unchanged
compared with a year ago. Food
was up four cents, clothing up
eight cents and miscellaneous
Items up six cents.
