CAMAS WINS
GAME SUNDAY
Camas was the winner and Ver
nonia “took it on the chin” again
Sunday when the Columbia riyer
boys came here to play what will
probably be Vemonias last home
game. Two games called because
of rain earlier in the season were
scheduled here but it is thought
that they will not be made up.
However, it 'is possible that the
playing of these games will be
required.
Sunday’s encounter was disast
rous for the locals who seemed
to have a decidedly off day. Ov-

Play Started
Match play began Sunday at
the Vernonia Country Club to de
termine the champion golfer of
the group. A schedule of matches
has been drawn up for play for
the next several weeks, but results
are not yet available.
Details of scores will start
coming in by the coming Sunday,
according to Gal Davis, tourna
ment committeeman who will keep
records of scores as they are
turned in.

erthrows, failure to hit the Camas
hurler and a variety of other
unfortunate plays seemed to “gang
up” on Vernonia with the result
that Camas went home with the
larger portion of a 10-2 tally.
Only five hits were marked
down by scorekeeper R. A. Wil
liams for the locals as compared
with 14 for Camas.

Egg Production Expected
To Be 40 Per Cent Less
Egg production from July
through December will be about
40 per cent less than in January-
June, but the reduction will be
offset by near-record midyear
cold-storage stocks and a sharp
decrease in noncivilian require
ments. Of the 105 million cases
of eggs estimated to be produced
in the first six months of 1946,
hatching will take 5 million cases;
government (for drying to meet
commitments), 13 million cases,
and civilians, 73 million cases.

Don’t assist in depleting our
forests by being careless. The
economic loss from fire is many
times the loss of the material
burned, whether it be in field,
range or forest fires. Let’s all
join in the effort to KEEP ORE
GON GREEN.

Use of 2, 4-D in spraying pas
tures has not proved injurious to
cows nor sheep grazing on the
treated pasture, in tests conducted
recently by the United Stated de
partment of agriculture, says
Everett Kreizinger, extension ar-
gronomist at the State College of
Washington.
The test gave no indication that
any of the chemicals passed from
the digested plants into the cow’s
milk. Even when the experiment
er's added pure chemicay to the
grain ration of a cow at the rate
of 5.5 grams a day for more than
100 days she showed no ill effects
in weight, production of milk,
or in appetite.

That veterans returning to
farms are getting most of Ore
gon’s share of the dwindling sup
ply of new farm machinery is
evidenced by reports from county
AAA committee on veterans’ pref
erence certificates issued during
the preceding month.
The state PM A office reports
that county committees during the
period March 21 to Apnl 20 re
ceived 653 applications from vet
erans, issued 540 certificates and
granted 549 extensions on certi
ficates previously issued which
had not been filled before the
expiration dates. A total of 129
certificates were satisfied by deal
ers during the period.
Certificates were issued for 44
different items of farm machinery
and equipment. Tractors headed
the list with 225 applications, 181
certificates, 180 extensions and 52
certificates satisfied.
