LET’S BE SOCIABLE Drama Club Members Receive Letters The high school Drama Club members met Thursday evening, May 10 in the home economics room at the school for a lunch, the awarding of letters, and mov ing pictures. Club members who received letters were Allene Hudson, Martha Wells, and Dave Buell. During the meeting the group attended the show and upon returning, saw several moving pictures which were presented by John Schram. Mrs. Maude Kobow to Give Piano Recital Mrs. Maude Kobow, musical instructor at the Washington grade school, will present 12 of her students in a piano recital in the school auditorium Fri day evening at 8 o’clock. Bruce Bass Bridal Shower Is Event of Thursday MIST — A bridal shower was given at the home of Mrs. Wm. Bridgers at Mist last Thursday in honor of Mrs. Larry Brady (Bet ty Hall) of Glenoma.Wash. About 60 guests attended including Mrs. Boe, Mrs. Mellinger, Miff. Dane Brady and Mrs. Jerry Turner. Mrs. Don Hall from Glenoma was also a guest . A delicious lunch was served and an especially-made cake by the Vernonia Bakery was the added attraction. Many lovely gifts were re- ceived. An entertaining feature ot the shower was the entrance of an ironing board dressed as a bride with long vail and wreath at her side being the groom rep resented by dust mops and dust rags. Two youngsters propelled the “bride” and “groom” to the wedding march which was played by Mrs. Bern Bliss. Tea Enjoyed by Sewing Class, Mothers Members of the sewing classes, which have been istructed by Mrs. Ruth Van De Moortele at the Washington grade school, and mothers of the students will enjoy a tea and short program Thursday afternoon at the school building. Loyal Women to Meet Wednesday The Loyal Women of the Christian church will hold their regular meeting on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, in the social room of the church. Event A combination birthday and farewell party was held at the home of Mrs. Myra Hodgson in Treharne, Saturday, May 12, celebrating the birthday of Marietta Errend and the leaving of Douglas Culbertson and Ralph Sturdevant for the army. A chicken dinner was served to the guests with cake and ice cream for dessert. Mrs. Lona Wiedman assisted Mrs. Hodgson in preparing and serving the dinner. 90 and 9 Men to Convene Friday The 90 and 9 Men will m it on Friday evening at 7:3V n business and social session at the 'Christian church. All men are in vited and refreshments will be served by the ladies of the church. Beach Visit Provides Clams RIVERVIEW — A group of clam diggers from this vicinity returned Sun. eve. from the beaches with a good supply of clams. In this party were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Heath and child ren. Mr. and Mrs, Robert W. Beck left Monday for Seattle from which port they will leave on Wednesday for Fairbanks, Al aska. The best wishes of their many friends go with these new ly-weds to their new home. Word received by Mrs. Olof Jacobson from the Glen Henry family who left here in March states that Glen was inducted into the army on May 10th and is now in Fort Lewis. Mrs/ Hen ry and daughter, Donna, will make their .home with her par ents at Kettle Falls, Wn. during his absence. When she wrote, Mrs. Henry was assisting at the home of Glen’s sister, Mrs. J. A. Thomas in Chewelah, Wn. while Mrs. Thomas is hospital ized. Sydney Ann Malmsten, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvard Malmsten of Vancouver is spend ing the week with her grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs, Chas. Ratkie. Mrs. Herman Wood and Mrs. Olof Jacobson tarnsacted business in Portland last Fri. Those who attended the eighth grade plays at the Washington school Fri. eve. spoke highly of the thoroughness with which each participant executed his part. Much credit is due to both pu pils and their instructors for a pleasurable evening for their list eners. Mr. and Mrs. George Brown, custodians of our first aid sta tion, moved the first of the week to their home at Pittsburg. We regret the loss of this good couple from our midst. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Pugh and family spent Sun. with Mr. and Mrs. Chas. White at Gales Creek. Mr. and Brs. George Davis and George’s mother motored to For est Grove Mon. Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Pelster are the parents of another baby daughter, born Saturday, May 12 and weighing 7 pounds, 6 ounces. She has been named Delores. The Pelster family now includes two boys and two girls. Mr. Glen Hawkins of Ver nonia will be the guest speaker. On Thurs. the 24th the school here will hold its annual picnid in the late afternoon, the fam ilies bringing a basket of food. Coffee and ice cream will be served. The supper is to be at 6 o’clock and every one is welcome and invited. A telegram was received dur ing the week end by the Willard Garlocks saying their son, Jim my, of the USN was expected home for a while. He has been out on the water the past year or more. Wed. visitors in Clatskanie were Mrs. C. O. Hayden, Mrs. Roy Hughes and Mrs. Dowling. Mrs. Reed Holding wais a guest from Clatskanie at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Max OBlack, at Natal last Thurs. Navy man Frank Checmonek was home from Astoria over the week end. The Mist Helping Circle which was to have met Thurs, the 24th, has been postponed to the week after the 31st. Mrs. Waddell will entertain then. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Enneberg and sons were Sun. dinner guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. McGee. Perry McGee of the USN and his wife are visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Vernonia Eagle_____ Thursday, May 17, 1945_____ 3 Mrs. L. E. McGee. Perry is with an aircraft carrier and has seen duties overseas for the past two years. He will be somewhere in the vicinity of Detroit when his leave is over. Mrs. Willard Garlock was in Portland several days last week. Joe Henderson of the Merchant Marine is home on leave. He’s just returned from Saipan. He leaves soon for parts unknown. Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Libel re Mr. and Mrs. Claud Kyser are the parents of a baby boy, who arrived last week at the Clats kanie hospital. Mrs. Arnie Johnston stopped in the village Sat. on her way home to Birkenfeld.
