Storm Causes Falling Rocks Mis.—Bernard Dowling was a business visitor in Portland Sat urday. The Mist Helping Circle is meet ing with Mrs. Harry Reynolds this week on Thursday. George Jones was down from the Benson lookout Monday afternoon. Shady Lane came up from Sea side Monday. A. R. Melis was a village shopper Monday evening. Owing to the heavy storm Satur- d y a lot of big rocks fell from the cliffs overhead onto the highway between here and Clatskanie, cal ling the highway crew to remove them Rain, hail and snow Monday noon caused the crew at Matthews Bros, logging site to take the afternoon off. They returned to work Tuesday morning. The W.M.S. met Wednesday at the A. R. Melis home on the Fish hawk. The afternoon was pleasant ly spent with a short business meet ing and social, while at the close delicious refreshments were served by the hostess. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Royal McCaffery at Birkenfeld. Sch ol students here are getting along with only one teacher, the o -her having resigned. Mrs. Fred Davis taught a few days last week but was unable to keep on because of other duties, George Kovack was in Portland last Saturday. Sonny Wikstrom was up from Taft over the week-end.' Pvt. Richard Banzer was up from California where he is stationed in the army. He was here a few days last week and visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Banzer. Mrs. Elaine Reid came up from Tillamook Saturday night and vis ited her mother, Mrs. Roper and daughter, Shirley Ann. The Walt Batson folks were Port- and visitors during the week-end. Miss Annabelle Edmonds was an over night guest Saturday of the Austin Dowling family. Miss Ed monds came down from Portland to work in the O-A office at Ver nonia. Mrs. W. R. Johnson attended the W.M.S. at the home of Mrs. A. R. Melis Wednesday She was gladly received as she has been ill so long. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Dowling were Clatskanie visitors Saturday. Delmar Jones recently spent a few days in Tacoma. T. L. Calahan and wife spent the week-end at Seaside. Clyde Johnson is helping with the building of a machine shed on the J. O. Libel farm. Sonny Osborn came up from California to visit his parents. He has been in the army a year or two. Perry McGee who is taking an airplane mechanic course in school in Chicago, will be ready to take his place soon whereever Uncle Sam calls. Perry has some of the news from the papers and appreciates them, too.' He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. E. McGee. Floyd Osborn is with the armed forces in the islands.
