Owner Twenty-two members oif the John Bucher Women’s Relief Corps of Vernonia attended the Department Convention, held in Portland, on Wednesday, May 15, the second day of the annual 3-day convention. High-lights of the meeting were a special drill and exemplification of the ritual' by the local corps at which time A. T. Penland, state commander cf the G. A. R., was initiated into Vernonia corps as an honorary member. This is a grand honor for the local corps as this is the first time in the history of the Women’s Relief Corps that a G. A. R. member has ever been initiated as a member of the Auxil iary. Election of officers followed the ritual demonstration during which time Mrs. Alma Mills was elected Department Junior Vice- President. Those attending from here were: Elizabeth Watts, Eva Jacobs, Ethel Hall, Silvia Turner, Margaret Lines, Alma Mills, Laura Sauers, Mary Jane Skhultz, Selma Webb, Gertrude Rusow, Ruth Kell- mer, Ione Justice, Faye Davis, Dor cas Bayes, Isola Fowler, Gertrude Kirk, Minnie Johns, Myrtie Cline, Mary Miller, Nan Hall of Waldport, Stella Monger oif Springfield and Mabie Mitchell of Portland. clean-up committee: Mr*. Marston were in Eugene attending the Willamette Valley Logging Conference Friday; they went from there on to the McKenzie river. A joint eighth grade graduation exercise was held by the Mist and Natal schools in the Mist gym Wed nesday, May 11. Five pupils from Mist and two from Natal were graduated. W. B. Schnebly made the address of the evening. Awards were given for perfect attendance and penmanship. Mr. Walter Larson presented the diplomas to Mist graduates and J. W. Neurer, chair man of the Natal school board, pre sented diplomas to Natal pupils. Hale Graves of Tiller is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Graves, for a few days. Seniors Feted at Banquet— The reception hall of the Amer ican Legion Hall was the scene of the annual senior banquet the night of Wednesday, May 11. Baskets of flowers were placed about the room; Class colors were used in table decorations, in menus and in nap kins. Green bowls with yellow flow er* decorated the table; the menus were yellow with green printing; napkins oif yellow had imprinted in green the ilass motto, “At the foot hills climbing.’’ Following the dinner, a short pro gram climaxed with the showing of the colored moving pictures of the May Day festival as taken by Howard Reeher was enjoyed. All civic organization* contribut ed to the banquet which was plan ned and prepared by a committee of American Legion Auxiliary ladies. The decorating committee was: Mrs. J. W. Nichol», Mrs. Alice Estey, and Mrs. E. A. Preston. The dinner committee consisted of Mr*. Virgil Powell, Mrs. Harry Culbert son, Mrs. Pete Wiedman, Mrs. Louis Boeck and Mr*. J. C.
