Teacher Nearly Drown.— Miss Mildred Drake, former high school teacher of Vernonia, who gave up her teaching position to go into home missionary work was nearly drowned in the recent Ken tucky flood. Miss Drake has been teaching in a school at Van Cleve in the hills of Kentucky. In five minutes time the water rose twen- feet and they felt the building torn from its foundation. It float ed out into the flood water with sixteen people inside. Then it fell apart. Miss Drake managed to get on some drift wood and hi ng on for several hours until rescued, as were six others. Nine were drowned.
